So for the many #Medevac refugees released from detention 6 months ago on 6 month bridging visas, these need to be renewed. But the application process requires @AlexHawkeMP and/or @karenandrewsmp to ‘lift the bar’ and allow them to submit the applications. 1/

Let’s also be clear that these people can’t legally work without a visa, so government ministers #HomeAffairs #Immigration are putting livelihoods at stake. Remember also that refugees on these bridging visas cannot access any #Centrelink or public housing. 3/
On top of this, 3 and 5 year TPVs and SHEV visa renewals need to be processed again in full, and other bridging visas need to be renewed. Feels like tax payer money wasted for departmental staff to be doing the same thing over and over and over, 4/
when it could just be done once by granting #permanentprotection.

It’s not just work rights put at risk. The government not processing bridging visas in a timely and professional fashion also potentially cancels #medicare cards which are the only lifeline to access medical care for these refugees. 6/
The #Biloela family were grabbed in pre Dawn raids because the department did not extend their bridging visa. Since they were grabbed the day after the visa expired, there must have been some preplaning to deliberately allow the visa to expire and be on the doorstep the same day.
Will the government allow applications for the bridging visas of #Medevac refugees to be extended? Will they process them on time? How long does it take to process a bridging visa? Or a TPV? Or a SHEV? @NickMcKim @KKeneally - questions need to be asked. The government must answer
