Just over a year ago, I was recovering from surgery to remove fibroids and get an IUD insertion. I have an IUD not because I’m trying to prevent getting pregnant. I have one because of my fibroids.
7 out of 10 women suffer in silence from fibroids and many don’t know they have them. I was one of them. I suffered from heavy, clothes-staining bleeding during my periods. When I mentioned to my provider, she sent me for an ultrasound.
Also, because I was losing so much blood every month. I was borderline anemic and iron supplements weren’t helping much.
The ultrasound found several fibroids in my uterus. They were the cause of my heavy bleeding and borderline anemia. My Dr recommended an IUD to prevent them from coming back and to slow my blood loss.
I am almost 50 years old and my childbearing days are over. But thank God I have access to an IUD in order to stay healthy. And, my blood iron levels are back to normal.
So, gentlemen, birth control and IUDs aren’t just for preventing pregnancy. They contribute to the overall reproductive health of women and people who bear children. Excluding bc from FRA will lead to poor health outcomes. Is that what you really want?
