Be awed and amazed, how a few lines & curves brings alive the emotions and aesthetics of our puranas, devi & devtas.
Can just lines, curves and colours be so effective? Yes!Shri Bapu is a rare phenomenon in the Indian art scene. His work conveys our Kathas with poise, power and
unparalelled reverence. He is an artist/Illustrator/cartoonist/painter/graphics artist & a filmmaker too who seemed to have ruled the telugu magazines, books & business firms for nearly 7 decades.
Sri Sattiraju laxminarayan born on Dec 15, 1933 in West Godavari, graduated in
law from the university of Madras. But his passion was always for drawing. His brilliance in bringing out the essence of any literary piece with a few simple yet beautiful playful strokes catapulted him to work on many literary works & poems in telugu.
Bapu introduced a style of painting that uses simple bright colours, freehand drawing and lack of background clutter that made his work simple beautiful & popular. Specially his female forms earned a sobriquet "Bapu Bomma" as it describes precisely the beautiful women of telugu.
He received numerous accolades, awards and International recognition for his work; above all, he was honoured with Padmashri in the year 2013.
The Tirumala tirupathi, Bhadrachalam and few prominent devasthanams appointed him as the 'Asthana chitrakar' in honour of his work.
On the request of the then CM of Andhra Pradesh,#ShriBapu ventured on bringing out Ramayan & Mahabharat as illustrated books for the benefit of children.
His work is essentially a celebration of our dharmic ethos and conveys the sensibilities of Sanatana dharma very eloquently.
His endeavour was to provide a compact, unadulterated (with respect to both background & foreground )visual experience with revered bhakti components.
Today, his work holds sway with all the generations; specially the diety specific paintings invoking bhakti in a very organic -
form. Pranam to Bapu for making bhakti, puranic & dharmic components more relevant and relatable. Sri Bapu passed away on 31 August 2014.
