The Juneteenth bill signed into law by President Biden and passed by the Democratic Congress celebrates a holiday already observed by millions—now made official nationwide thanks to activists like Opal Lee. npr.org/2021/06/17/100…
Also celebrating today: a final line of attack in the GOP’s long war on the ACA collapsed at the Supreme Court. A relief and a tribute to all who fought to pass and defend health care—from President Obama to Speaker Pelosi to millions of grassroots activists.
WOW! The #WisDems2021#BadgerBounceback convention last weekend was terrific. If you want to re-experience the excitement, or if you missed it and want to catch up in just 90 seconds, don’t miss our gavel-to-gavel speed-run video! 1/
SO MUCH happened. The biggest and most exciting news came courtesy of @GovEvers, who officially launched his reelection campaign from our virtual convention main stage! apnews.com/article/wiscon…
Also on Saturday night, we had a powerhouse lineup of Dem leaders—including local electeds from across WI, a keynote from @JulianCastro, & speeches from Baldwin, Kind, Moore, Pocan, Kaul, Barnes… and President @JoeBiden! See our livetweet thread here:
ANNOUNCEMENT: President @JoeBiden, in a special recorded message, will virtually visit the @WisDems Badger Bounceback 2021 Convention this weekend! Don’t miss out: wisdems.org/registerforcon…
Our 2021 WisDems virtual state convention will be a two-day event, celebrating victories, rallying our grassroots who made those wins possible, and hearing from Democratic leaders about how we build and strengthen our party.
On Sat evening, we’ll have our Congressional delegation—Sen Tammy Baldwin & Congressmembers Ron Kind, Gwen Moore & Mark Pocan; Gov Evers (the inspiration for our convention theme this year, “Badger Bounceback”!); Lt. Gov Mandela Barnes; and a keynote from Secretary Julián Castro.
THREAD: Ron Johnson is set to take center stage today at the Milwaukee Press Club. It’s easy to focus on his extremist conspiracy theories, but let’s use this moment to look at his legislative record. TLDR: he’s continuously failed Wisconsinites when it mattered the most. 1/
Last week, Johnson led the charge to obstruct the passage of the U.S. Innovation & Competition Act which would provide investments in tech jobs for education & training for workers, hold the Chinese gov't accountable for cyber attacks, & reduce U.S. economic dependence on China.
If Johnson succeeded in killing the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act, he could cost Wisconsin BILLIONS of dollars in future economic growth. He’s trying to kill investment in tomorrow’s high-wage, high-tech jobs. jsonline.com/story/money/bu…
Ron Johnson and 34 other Republicans blocked the bipartisan 1/6 commission. Make this backfire. Let’s supercharge the @WisDems end of month fundraising drive. Goal: 195 new monthly donors in the next 35 hours. Can you sign up? 1/ secure.actblue.com/donate/insurre…
The GOP’s desperation to cover up the crimes of January 6 comes from knowledge of complicity. They can’t bear the re-airing of the truth: how so many Republicans fanned the conspiracy theories that led to the deadly insurrection.
Another reason Ron Johnson doesn’t want an investigative commission: it would torpedo the obvious misinformation he himself has been pushing ever since. Here he is on Fox News saying “Even calling it an insurrection, it wasn’t! … By and large it was peaceful protest…”
