“White people need to start getting together, specifically about race” no no guys I’m no expert here but I’m quite confident that this is part of the problem
A white trauma therapist explaining the need to unpack learning history “through a white lens” is a little too on the nose for our present moment.
“There’s a period of deep shame for being white…and that’s a very legitimate piece of this work.”
Again, I’m no expert here, but if the solution these (mostly white) mental health professionals recommend to combat racism is to encourage millions of people to feel shamefully about the color of their skin, well, I’m not sure that will be effective.
Naturally the only pitfall in this plan, so say the experts, is that it is too reliant on white people!
“There’s a different cost for my friends of color to be in relationship with me” is how this very normal person describes her friendships with people of color.
Each of these people exists in a world where it is totally inconceivable that they might be wrong, and every word they utter serves as a reminder of that fact.
Has someone coined a term for mental Munchausen’s by proxy for profit or do I need to do that?
