There’s the public statement of support from this @potus that I’d looked for earlier.
If our democracy is “in peril,” then this @whitehouse needs to rally all Americans to defend it based upon shared public facts, from debunking @potus45’s lies of fraud to changing Senate rules.
More presidential attention, but no deeper insight into how the President or Senator Majority Leader propose to overcome the filibuster that has sunk civil rights legislation in previous years.
Watching @cspan 2, where Senators are debating on whether to open debate on voting reform legislation.. c-span.org/event/?512831/… @VP Harris is presiding, & would be a 51st vote if needed.
@cspan@VP The Senate is now voting on whether to begin debate on #S1, an omnibus bill that would reform various aspects of elections, voting, & ethics in the USA: congress.gov/bill/117th-con… Relevant disclosure: I helped draft the Honest Ads Act, in Section 4201, & support this bill's passage.
Because the filibuster endures, 60 votes are needed to begin debate on #S1 in the US Senate.
It's now 42 yes to 37 no, but there has been no indication for weeks that there are 10 Republican votes for this bill, & it's a 50-50 Senate.
Loud laughter in the chamber just now.
That's it: 50-50, as expected. @SenSchumer is making a statement from the floor, saying what we can see: state legislatures are passing laws that restrict voting rights justified by lies about a stolen election.
3 of 5 Republicans believe @POTUS45's lies: washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/…
@SenSchumer@POTUS45 .@SenSchumer said a voting rights bill will come up again, & the Senate will advance it.
"We going to explore every last one of our options. We have to. Voting rights are too fundamental."
"This voter suppression cannot stand."
But if the Senate doesn't change the rules, it will.

This bill (#SB7) was drafted in secret, expanded to include voting restrictions, & rushed through the Texas Senate on Saturday under suspension of rules, without time for Texans to read the legislation: texastribune.org/2021/05/30/tex…
The @VP identified it as an attack on voting rights
President @JoeBiden said this Texas bill “attacks the sacred right to vote” & connected it to a broader “assault on democracy” that “disproportionately targets Black & Brown Americans. whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…
🚨🇺🇸🚨“language was also inserted in the bill making it easier to overturn an election, no longer requiring evidence that fraud actually altered an outcome of a race but rather only that enough ballots were illegally cast that could have made a difference” washingtonpost.com/politics/texas…

I'm listening, just as @nnamdikid did for 23 years.
The 5 times I got to go on @kojoshow remain highlights of my career. He's an incredible interviewer.
His retirement will leave a gaping void in public media for the District & region.
Can't overstate how much I'll miss
