If you don't want people to be cynical, do the things you say you'll do in all these apocalyptic emails you send me imploring me to "stop Mitch." Binch, I voted for Y'ALL to do that. At least try. 
"We need to elect more Democrats to stop the GOP!" Like...a majority, maybe? Boy imagine if we had that....
I get the structural barriers. I get the filibuster. I get Manchin and Sinema are who they are. But at some point you have to look at the leadership and ask whether they are up to the challenge. Unless and until that reckoning occurs, this slow circling the drain continues.
Look-I don't need lectured about "what are they supposed to do?" My larger point is that if someone like me--a guy with an actual McGovern in '72 bumper sticker in my office and who has voted Dem for 30 years--doesn't see a sense of direction, that's a real problem.
Also, please don't yell at each other in the replies. We're all worried and angry, but we'll keep doing the work because there's no other viable option. Be kind to your coworkers.
