❌ “My screams were so loud that my husband tried to find out what room I was in to make it stop" telegraph.co.uk/women/life/one…
🔊 This week, presenter @TVNaga01 spoke out on air about her own intense pain from having an IUD fitted:

“My screams were so loud that my husband tried to find out what room I was in to make it stop"
❌💊 The NHS mentions it can be “uncomfortable” and that “some people might find it painful but you can have a local anaesthetic to help.”

But many women aren't offered any pain relief.

@LucyMazuma's GP told her paracetamol would be enough
"It took three attempts to fit my IUD, each more painful than the last. I have never felt pain like it. Nothing can describe that profound agony of having your cervix clamped. I was unprepared for it and in so much pain I didn't even recognise my own voice"
Cohen surveyed more than 1,300 women about the procedure:

📌 93% of women polled said they had experienced pain during the process

📌 43% rated their pain as 'extremely painful', 'almost unbearable', or 'excruciating'

📌 53% were not advised to take pain relief
Following the procedure, women said:

📌 Medical professionals dismissed female pain
📌 They were made to feel they were being dramatic
📌 They felt their experience of pain was unique
📌 They felt as if they had been violated
📌 The procedure was more painful than giving birth
💪 Cohen has built a petition for better pain relief for IUD procedures.

⁉️ "Why should women suffer unnecessarily when pain relief exists? You wouldn’t have a colonoscopy without proper pain relief, so why should this be any different, just because it’s ‘only’ women’s bodies?"
🤰"It’s as if society accepts that to be a woman is to suffer pain. That we are to bear period pain and childbirth pain (preferably without an epidural, which some women are still discouraged from having) and that we are to quietly endure the unpleasant side effects of menopause"
⚖️ "I believe medicine was created by men, for men. In 2021 you’d think we’d have moved on. his is about human decency. Because appropriate pain relief for a potentially traumatic and excruciating procedure should, by now, be a given"
Have you experienced pain as a result of a IUD procedure?

➡️At some point, you’ll probably have worked out your BMI

❓But this metric doing more harm than good?

📰A large body of research now suggests BMI is an outdated and ineffective way to measure how your weight affects your health

Thread ~👇🧵
telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness…
➡️Many experts argue that BMI is a blunt tool

They say the formula is flawed by the fact it does not distinguish between fat and muscle.

❌This means that on an individual level it can see healthy people misdiagnosed as overweight or obese, and vice versa
In fact, BMI was never intended to be a way to measure a healthy weight.

🧑‍🔬It was invented by a mathematician in the mid-19th century as a way to describe the growth spurts that happen after birth and puberty
