Xie’s desire to fast-track her education began in Grade 2, aided by her homeroom teacher, who prepared special materials and worksheets.
In Grade 5, Xie pursued skipping to Grade 6, a jump “considerably harder” to pull off. Her school in P.E.I. said no. Her parents tried to dissuade her.

Now, Xie is the youngest student to graduate from the Faculty of Arts and Science since at least 1979.
