⚠️UPDATE from IAEA Spokesperson on the temporary inspections agreement between the IAEA and Iran. (Thread)
"Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi today informed the IAEA Board of Governors about recent developments related to the Agency’s verification and monitoring in Iran." 1/
"In a 17 June letter to the Vice-President of Iran and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Ali Akbar Salehi, Director General Grossi indicated that the 24 May agreement with Iran would expire on 24 June and said it was essential for the Agency .. 2/
.. to understand Iran’s position regarding the possible continued collection, recording and retention of data by Agency monitoring and surveillance equipment after that date." 3/
"In today’s Board report, DG Grossi said that as of 25 June, Iran had not replied to his letter or indicated whether it intends to maintain the current arrangement, which would ensure continuity of operation of Agency equipment and of storage of the information collected." 4/
"The Director General stresses the vital importance of continuing the Agency’s necessary verification and monitoring activities in Iran, including the uninterrupted collection and storage of data .. 5/
.. by its monitoring and surveillance equipment, and that an immediate response from Iran is needed in this regard." 6/
To sum this up: No reply from Iran. IAEA is unclear where Iran stands on this question and what will happen to the info stored on IAEA cameras. If not resolved quickly, this does not bode well for #Iran#JCPOA talks that are set to resume probably at some stage next week.
