The @IFPI_org, which claims to represent the worldwide recording industry is getting super-aggressive about policing audio, especially TikTok clips shared on Twitter.
Graeme Grant, the IFPI's Director of Content Protection & Enforcement sends a letter to Twitter pointing out a Tweet with a copyrighted song (provided by TikTok, which may soon face similar issues) and demanding its removal. Twitter's response is: zap the video + lock the account
So far, I've been hit with three of these notices (Twitter helpfully sends Grant's original complaint with each one). They unlock the account as soon as I click through a few screens apparently confessing my sin.
This is a bigger problem than my account, Twitter, or the copyrighted songs. The real issue is about to land on TikTok's doorstep, which is built on these music clips. If it's not paying for use (or claims fair use because they're short clips), I think it's in for a rude awkening
Update: Just got hit with a fourth notice and lock. This is clearly an automated system run amuck.
