This will likely be long thread about an attempt my brother and I made to open one SB account each at @AxisBank.

It's been messy and we require assistance — if anyone knows who at the bank can address this, please let me know.

Here's what's happened:
To open SB accounts, we downloaded the ac opening form from the Axis Bank website & filled it up. We shared the soft copies of both our forms with Mr M via WhatsApp.

He said he needed live photos of our original docs and of us, & some papers to be signed instead of that form.
Mr M said the form we had filled couldn't be used & he had to fill info directly into the Axis Bank system.

We had asked him to share whatever needed to be signed on WhatsApp before he came to our home with a colleague whose name we don't know, & he shared 1 page for each of us.
When Mr M reached, he gave each of us a Welcome Kit with debit card & asked us to sign 3 sheets of paper each. We took photos of the signed pages.

Mr M did not take the hard copy we'd filled. We thought he'd extract info from the soft copy we'd shared for Axis Bank's records.
Some time after Mr M left our home, I received a mail seemingly from Axis Bank. I didn't think too much of it as it was to the address I'd written on the form which I had only shared with Axis Bank employees. I assumed that it was part of their account opening process although >
> I was concerned as the address it came from was not an axisbank.com address. I therefore asked @AxisBankSupport to check if it had actually come from the bank. Today, they informed me it's not authentic.

My brother had not got such a mail then but got one today.

Back to 21st June when Mr M visited:

We were told the pages we needed to sign were to open SB accounts. This was hurried to minimise time spent interacting due to CoVID-19 fears. So, we could not carefully read the 2 extra sheets Mr M gave us to sign on the spot—we looked later.
At night, we noticed 1 of page in each set of papers we signed mentions PPF acs. This was irrelevant to us as we did not apply to open PPF accounts. We therefore asked Mr M to cross out the PPF section & send us a photo of the page for each of us with that section struck out.
Mr M said he would do so but did not, and then said if it's struck out, the forms world be rejected. We asked him to send us a mail confirming the information he gave us. We've not received any mail from him.

Mr M aside — and all of this has been happening over the week...>
We also contacted Mr V at the branch explaining the situation. We said that we had not seen our completed forms, and we did not know what details have been filled in Axis Bank's records regarding our accounts.

We therefore asked for the following three things:
1. Confirmation from Axis Bank that only a savings account is being opened for each of us.

2. For Axis Bank to keep on record that the part of the page we were asked to sign for PPF accounts is blank merely because it is not relevant to the opening of Savings Bank accounts. >
(We already each have a PPF account each at other banks, & we did not want to open any PPF ac at Axis Bank.)

3. A copy of each of our completed ac opening forms to be sent to us by email along with all the details entered into Axis Bank records pertaining to us & our acs.

We also contacted the Nodal Officer of Axis Bank, regarding the issue, who seems to have passed on our concerns to the Principal Nodal Officer who told each of us — a few hours apart — that a service request had been opened and, minutes later, that our eMail IDs weren't regd.

Meanwhile, Mr V did ultimately eMail us some papers, a fraction of what we had asked for.

We were appalled and have asked @AxisBank, Nodal Officers and the branch, not to process our application as we do not want these SB acs due to how the bank has handled matters.

My mail: Image
We've issued STOP CHEQUE instructions to the relevant banks from which funds were to be taken to open savings acs at @AxisBank, & we've told Axis Bank not to process our applications.

We would like to close this with a confirmation of application withdrawal from Axis Bank.
We have no idea how to go about formally closing the chapter, and would appreciate it if anyone knows and could share the info.

Also, @AxisBankSupport: if you could read this thread and arrange to have the chapter closed, it would be helpful.

There's much to be desired when it comes to healthcare accessibility in India.

We've talked about the compulsory licensing of patents. We've talked of revocations & waivers. Some of us have even thought of not just a #TRIPSwaiver but of the #TRIPSend.

It may be inadequate. 🧵
These are some of the legal options available:

🔹 under the Patents Act:

Compulsory licensing:
Usually, possible under s 84 but, now, s 92 could come into play if the govt issues a notification which would enable it to bypass some of 84's stringency.
Revocation:
Usually (with great difficulty) under s 64 of the Patents Act.

However, now, it may be possible to revoke certain pharma patents under s 66 in public interest on account of their being prejudicial to the public.

With all the brouhaha about how regressive that abortion ban from somewhere in the US is, you'd imagine our own laws are fab, and that Indian women can access abortion if / when they need / want to...

but not really. The MTP Act legalising abortion left control with docs. 》
》Also, the MTP Act was essentially a 1970s population control measure. So, yeah, women got some sort of right to access abortion but women's rights weren't really prioritised in the statute.

Also, the 20-week cut-off period for a legal procedure has often been a disaster. 》
》Women past the 20-week cut-off have approached courts time and time again to be able to access legal abortion with varied results. Not that many have the means to go rushing to court.

Indian abortion law needs a rehaul and just maybe we should be talking about that (too).

We didn't hear as much about constitutional law(yers) even a few years ago because we had relative stability. That was a good thing. Constitutional law is not meant to be a spectacle: it's stodgy and you don't ordinarily look at it closely except when things go wrong.

It's been in focus in recent years. Not just in India but across vast swathes of the world. Not coz we're negotiating the creation of a better world. But coz we're exploring the limits of power. We're testing whether checks and balances work; we're finding they don't always.

So many of us had faith or hope that institutions backed by constitutions would uphold law and establish fairness. So that we'd not be saying #neveragain once more. That hope has largely failed us.
