Thank you so much. @JADEdisjustice is designed to be community driven & as an undergraduate I have some ideas (thread coming), but I have no idea how it aligns to designing a dissertation. @DisInHigherEd @DisabledAcadem @DisInGradSchool, thoughts on the question below? For me, 1/
I first want to say thank you @trazle_kulshar for your question. It means the world. I think that one of the most striking parts of the article that I shared was the difference in the student success rates, 30% in nondisabled students and 13% in disabled students. With 2/
around 20% schools that have Disability Cultural Centers (DCC), maybe surveying the students that use the center for their perceived benefits as well as seeing if the difference in student success narrows in schools with DCCs. I think that comparing 20 control schools could be 3/
interesting as well. I love the idea of a DCC, but I have no idea what it is actually like. Does it change the campus climate to name and claim ableism as something wrong and are teachers less ableist in those schools? I think that as much research for the benefits of DCC 4/
could help in a campus making the investment. Another thought that I had for my earlier question of what requirements should be necessary for Disability Serving Institutions would be a DCC on their campus. I think surveys of leadership on campuses without DCCs of what they 5/
would need to approve a DCC on their campus would also help with disabled students not having to start from nothing and having advice from academic leadership on how to get them to understand the value of a DCC and agree to its construction or designation of an existing space. 6/
Again I am an undergraduate here, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. @DisInHigherEd @DisInGradSchool @DisabledAcadem, do any of my thoughts seem to align with a good dissertation topic? Do you have a different research idea that could help with advocacy efforts? And 7/
if you aren’t following me, please do. I am still stuck at 5,001 following & I cannot follow anyone new until I have 5,000 followers.

#AcademicTwitter, does your campus have a DCC and if not, what kind of research do you think would be needed to establish the benefit & need 8/
of a DCC?

@trazle_kulshar, another idea I have is to survey schools w/o the DCC to see if there was a Disability Serving Institution (DSI) status federally and one of requirements for this designation was having a DCC, would this be a motivating factor to establishing one on 9/
your campus? If this can reduce labor on disabled students to do years of advocacy work to get their campus to approve a DCC that would be amazing. I think research on DSIs and DCCs in increasing Disabled student success would be amazing or developing guidelines for DSIs that 10/
would align to increased student success and a better cultural climate towards the Disability community. Long steam of consciousness. @FairlyScience @amandafayecnslt @TheresaLovele12 @natetilton82 thoughts on the above and @trazle_kulshar’s question in the quoted tweet in the 11/
beginning of the thread? @AccessUc, @DREAMdisability and @AcssCollege, what are your thoughts about research with DCC’s that could help our advocacy efforts and developing guidelines for DSIs? I would love this to be the beginning of a robust conversation.

I am so excited to see the Disability Awareness Track, I created featured in @UCSanDiego This Week & to have @Olas_Truth to share Black Disabled History with us. It is an Untold story that I look forward to hearing her share. This is open to the @UofCalifornia system as well. 1/ Disability awareness More ...

Input #DisabilityTwitter: "Most instututions are are federally funded and thus has to include disability in statements. Unfortunately, disability is a spectrum & doesn't have it's own culture. (Deaf culture is the outlier) So it's hard to be seen as a unified culture. 1/
This was my question: Why do you believe that disability has made it into DEI statements of most institutions, yet has remained limited to accessibility and accommodations without being seen as a cultural group deserving of diversity program focused on disabled students in 2/
research or medicine and increasing recruitment of disabled students?

The response took me aback. @DisInHigherEd @Disabled_Docs @DisabledStem @DisabledInPsych @APHADisability

What are your thoughts on the question or the response I received above? 3/

I have a long story and advice needed because I think I lost funding along the way this day because of one teacher and surprising me a mandatory attendance requirement then accusing of academic dishonesty less than 3 hours to the deadline @dismhmatters @DisInHigherEd 1/
December 1st and I felt like I had all the support in the world to succeed. So much people edited for me provided feedback, I was calm and ready to finalize my applications that day to submit by 8:59pm on December 1st since SOPHAS is on EST and I noticed a note that funding 2/
couldn’t be guaranteed if you don’t submit by December 1st. The afternoon and I have a 0/6 for an assignment, dropping me in a major class from a B to a C. I look at the group assignment my name is on it, the TA comment says sorry you had to miss this one. I commented that I 3/

I am so excited to announce my 1st first author publication of my protocol for my "Systematic Review of Universal Preventive Interventions Designed to Improve Mental, Emotional, and Behavioral Health in Children Under the Age of 13." Let me share more 1/

crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/displ…
Our review question is: Does implementation of universal preventive interventions in family, community, health care, and school settings with recipients from birth to 12 years old avert the development of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders later in life? 2/
This question is important as a child's environment can have life long impacts. I noticed so much research focusing on selective interventions in children at high risk or indicated intervention in children engaging in high risk behaviors. Children that look fine, may not be 3/
