Good morning. Today will be the hottest day in the history of the Pacific Northwest.

This heat wave is what climate change looks like. Quite frankly this is one of the most unusually extreme weather events I’ve ever seen in my 18 years as a meteorologist.

It's 99°F at noon in Portland.

The high today will be 110°F+, hotter than it has ever been in Houston or Miami.

There it is: A new all-time record high, before noon, in June. Just unreal.

In Portland, it just passed 100°F.

Today could become the hottest day in the city's history.

Tomorrow will be even hotter — 112°F. Hotter than it's ever been in Houston.

And all this is with about ~3°F of global warming.

We are in a climate emergency.

We built @currently as a weather service for the climate emergency. We'll be covering this heat wave as a justice issue, because it is.

Minutes ago, Portland reached 106°F — that officially ties the hottest temperature ever recorded there.

Freeways in Detroit are "littered with abandoned vehicles" and 911 services are overwhelmed after 6.5 inches of rain fell last night.

Heavy rain is forecast to continue for the next six days.

This is not normal. We are in a climate emergency.

At @currently, our whole aim is to tell the stories of the climate emergency through weather, community, and justice.

Currently is the weather service I've wanted to build for my entire life.

We're combining some of the best meteorologists with weather journalists that will contextualize everything from hurricanes to fires to a good beach day to climate justice.

Maybe I'm idealistic, but this is a service that should exist everywhere in the world, for free.

That's our goal.

But to get there, we need the help from members, early adopters, and those that believe that this is a moment for transformational change.

We need you.
I talked with meteorologists and science journalists today in New Delhi India, Biloxi Mississippi, and Madrid Spain.

To meet this moment in history, we need to build communities of people who believe a better world is possible and are willing to fight for it.

We need you.
