There are three key statements she makes.

Her accomplishment of a meaningful climate plan for Canada. And the Supreme Court of Canada precedent and law of the land that pollution comes at a price.
Her acknowledgment of the key strategic relationships she has honed during her time as a politician. Wherever she lands, she brings those voices with her.
A hint at her next role.

It’s obvious to the keen observer.

Canada is well on its way with a plan and legal framework to addressing climate change.

McKenna is about to embark on bigger projects with a global focus. There’s so much more to do she states.
She also says women should not be afraid of entering politics. So maybe multiple death threats are not the reason for her leaving Canadian federal politics.

Maybe it’s the magnitude of the problem and the limitations of being a Canadian politician that limits her impact?
You know what I find amusing? The failure of opposition partisan hacks to give Catherine McKenna due respect and acknowledgment of the magnanimous achievements she’s made.

CPC is busy reducing her to a mere woman in a male dominated profession.
Painting her as a pawn being asked to vacate a seat for Mark Carney.

Refusing to acknowledge that this woman was behind the carbon pricing strategy that they fought and were summarily slapped down by SCC decision.
Carbon pricing is Canadian law because of many dedicated public servants who helped design the policy, write it, implement it nationally, enforce it, defend it in court, and ultimately present the winning argument that the SCC adopted as precedent.
In large part, that legacy is because of McKenna’s leadership.

McKenna is leaving after a formidable battle with conservative politicians and their main funders, big oil & gas, in which she played a key role in securing climate action as the irrefutable law of the land.
I am excited to witness what next she takes on as a project to overcome the mountains of cash being used to undermine climate action globally.

She’s a role model for women, effective climate activism and perseverance.
We should all be thanking her for helping to create the legal framework with Bill C-69 for all future resource extraction and the legal ability for Canada to move to clean energy.

Thank you Ms McKenna for your hard work, determination and ultimate success. Many appreciate you.
It’s not difficult to understand why conservatives are severely minimizing her impact and reducing her to a mere pawn in Canadian politics to serve the needs and demands of a cluster of men.

But that doesn’t explain NDP and GPC efforts to do the same. Or does it?
Progressive left pundits are assisting conservatives to spin the same fairytale.

Incapable of admitting to the success of an LPC politician to lead Canada, finally, into a legal framework that allows for effective climate action. With limited support from radical activists.
While progressives chirp a lot about climate action, the legal mechanisms required to push that agenda through have obviously been severely overlooked.

Rather they DEMAND immediate adoption and enforcement of their plans. Then vilify all those who fail to comply.
And they have the audacity & hubris to call this behaviour a democratic process.

Thank god McKenna chose to run for LPC. Or she’d have been relegated to obscurity by thousands who’ve adopted authoritarian behaviour in a western democracy.
The gloves are off. I’m no longer willing to respond to the progressive left’s use of cancel culture. A woman who has done more to advance climate action in Canada, more than ANY other politician, is being “cancelled” by progressives because they didn’t direct her actions.
Amplifying conspiracy theories about the reasons for McKennas departure serve the cancel culture agenda.

What kind of mental gymnastics do you need to perform to call yourself a feminist, yet seek to completely undermine a powerful effective woman?
The scariest thing is that millions of progressives across Canada, who support NDP & GPC, are willingly performing this procedure of self delusion and gaslighting themselves, each other, and the broader electorate.
As a woman, I’m highly offended that progressive sentiment would rather tear down the achievements of Catherine McKenna than admit to themselves that their caustic rhetoric and authoritarian behaviour made it more difficult to achieve.
It’s revoltingly sickening to see so many people incomprehensibly adopting authoritarian behaviour, willing to destroy anyone and anything that doesn’t explicitly reflect their demands.

Cancel Culture = Mobocracy/Ochlocracy.
Yes, I’ve finally figured out the political belief all opposition parties are using.

Ochlocracy.

Grouped with Tyranny and Oligarchy as three of the worst forms of governance and political beliefs and values.

On full display today as a powerful woman announces her departure.
Mob rule is one thing. Mobocracy is an inherently authoritarian method of undermining legitimate authority.

Currently the main strategy of every left and right opposition party in Canada.
A fitting farewell for the very effective and powerful Catherine McKenna….

A cacophony of the undemocratic miscreants she soundly defeated to provide a path for Canada to achieve climate action.
Thugs only attack when you’re effective.

Sorry to see that such an effective principled leader is leaving. However, I expect her impact on the global climate battle will wow us all.

There are very few years and loads of ochlocratic road blocks to overcome.

I’d like people to witness this horrific behaviour and recognize where it’s coming from. The ignorant self righteous sanctimonious left “progressives” who rationalize stochastic terrorism as acceptable entertainment and appropriate political commentary.
I’ve often referred to stochastic terrorism on the right.

But it’s as bad and as dangerous on the left.

People are burning down churches. Rage and hatred abound in the indigenous community and in their so called allies.
And what are these allies doing? Proudly proclaiming Caroline Bennett irredeemable for daring to privately criticize JWR.

Yeah, she should have known better that an opportunist like JWR would jump on the opportunity to smear LPC, and Caroline Bennett.

When I agree with Erin O’Toole, it makes me angry.

It means the extremism being witnessed on the left is out of hand.

F you for putting me and millions of others in that position.
Get your head out of your behind and do the hard work of reconciliation.

That does not include destroying property.

I don’t care how effing angry you are.

There is absolutely no justification for destroying property.

None.
You want to act like a two bit arsonist to prove a point? The only point you’re proving is your utter lack of consideration for indigenous people who attend those churches.

Learn to cope with this information. Millions of indigenous people have and have not destroyed property.

What this response from a UCP MLA reveals is the terror on the right if the public actually figures out that this is the system UCP is in the process of recreating in Alberta.
The “govt in power” ranged from colonial governance for British aristocracy and crown to Canadian Conservatives and Liberals of a former era.

Pierre Trudeau liberals began the process of removing IRS from faith institution’s control, and ultimately the closure of most schools.
This was completed in 1997. But the vast majority were closed in the 1970’s under P. Trudeau Liberal government.

Remember, conservatives held federal power from 1984 to 1993. It’s unsurprising few IRS were closed during the Mulroney era.

Thanks Althia for propagating disinformation. @althiaraj

Rather than questioning McKenna as to her rationale, like a REAL JOURNALIST, you spin some conspiracy theory that there is a problem performing her job due to PMJT.
It’s bad enough that you provide unbalanced and partisan opinions on CBC, but you’ve crossed a line with this BS.

The fact remains PMJT & LPC have done more than any Canadian federal govt to address climate change in a hostile and existentially threatening political environment.
No thanks to CPC or NDP who have continuously provided diametrically opposed rhetoric and obstruction of legislation and policy.

McKenna has been ruthlessly attacked by both left and right demagoguery and her life has been threatened several times.

Has anyone bothered to ask why McKenna is retiring from politics before moving on?

Could it be she’s fed up with partisan attacks from both sides? Brutal vicious verbal attacks and threats that puts her life and the lives of her children at risk?
And how media basically ignores the risks that female politicians endure. More or less providing tacit approval for partisan hacks who relentlessly attack female politicians with impunity.
Kinda like this article that is really about Mark Carney and not McKenna’s unfortunate decision to take herself out of some crosshairs.

Misogyny is built into the political system.

How about we stop perpetuating misogyny and ignoring it’s existence?

I think it’s appropriate to send this out again. With some information that I researched and compiled in 2019.
There’s a reason I don’t trust JWR. There’s a reason I have several issues with her veracity and portrayal as the victim of LPC racism and misogyny.

It’s not because I’m some partisan hack. It’s not that I support the Liberals unquestioningly.

I support their mandate.
