A good portion of our country is melting today, so now is as good of time as ever to bust a few #GreenNewDeal myths.
🧵1/ Let's jump in:
First off, implementing the #GreenNewDeal now will never, ever, be more expensive than the cost of dealing with the repercussions of our climate crisis down the road. 2/
Because the #GreenNewDeal was just a resolution, there was no cost associated with it. The rumor of a $600-700k per household tax burden was created, based on nothing, by a Republican think tank. 3/
One of the goals of the #GreenNewDeal is to increase the energy efficiency of homes by incentivizing homeowners to replace and upgrade items such as windows, doors and insulation, as well as electricity and plumbing systems. 4/
Passing a #GreenNewDeal does not mean America will be switching over to tiny windows. This claim was made by Donald Trump, and based on absolutely nothing.
Energy efficient windows? Yes.
Tiny windows? No. 5/
The #GreenNewDeal is popular across parties. A habitable planet, well-paying green jobs, clean air and water and avoiding increasingly dangerous severe weather happen to be a non-partisan issue for most.
We don't have a #GreenNewDeal because oil & gas lobbyists spend hundreds of millions of dollars each year paying our elected officials to oppose it. They spread the lies we just went through and push climate denial propaganda while they continue destroying our 🌎 for profit. 7/
Half-measures and lobbyist-owned politicians won't end our #ClimateCrisis
We need bold action that meets the scale and urgency of our #ClimateEmergency
I'm rejecting corporate PAC 💵 and fighting for a #GreenNewDeal for my coastal district in #NY3
If you can, please chip in $10 to support my campaign against my lobbyist-funded opponent. Every dollar matters and we could really use your help. 🙏♥️ secure.actblue.com/donate/melanie…

I asked AI to explain Trump's immunity case in the style of Schoolhouse Rock 🧵👇
🎼🎶(Verse 1)
Well, gather 'round, children, let me tell you 'bout a case,
Involving Donald Trump and his time in the highest place.
The Supreme Court had to decide on immunity,
And it's a story that's now part of our legal community.
⬇️
🎼🎶(Chorus)
Immun-i-ty, oh yes, immun-i-ty,
Keeps a president from facing accountability.
But when Trump was in office, he committed lots of crimes,
Supreme Court had to decide if he should also do the time.
⬇️
Happy "Last Day in Congress for George Santos Day" to all who are celebrating in and outside of #NY03
🧵Here's a quick recap of some of the lies and potential crimes uncovered over the last year:
George Santos:
• Lied about his mother being a victim of the 9/11 attacks despite living in Brazil
• Lied about being Jewish
• Lied about his grandparents surviving the Holocaust
• Lied about having employees killed in the Pulse Nightclub shooting
George Santos:
• Lied about graduating from Baruch College
• Lied about being the star of the Baruch volleyball team
• Lied about getting his MBA at NYU
• Lied about working at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup
• Lied about his employment at LinkBridge Investors
Tonight's GOP Speaker candidate forum is brought to you by some of the worst special interest groups.
🧵Let's meet the candidates and their sponsors:
Rep. Tom Emmer's Speaker candidacy is brought to you by the finance and the insurance industry, who has given him $263,000 so far this year to use his position on the Financial Services committee to protect Wall St, promote deregulation, and increase the wealth of billionaires.⬇️
Rep. Kevin Hern sits on Ways and Means which write our tax laws. He's received $113,500 so far this year from the finance, insurance and real estate industries to ensure their taxes stay low, Medicare and Social Security get cut, and billionaires get more tax breaks.⬇️
Last election cycle, the gun industry donated $4,624,340 to Republicans in Congress. This doesn't include dark money, independent expenditures to boost their campaigns, just straight up donations. (per OpenSecrets)
🧵Here are the top 10:
1. Rand Paul (R-KY) accepted $196,913 from the gun industry in 2022.
Rand Paul is paid to promote gun culture among kids.
2. Ron Johnson (R-WI) accepted $183,857 from the gun industry in 2022.
When asked last year about waiting periods for gun sales to buyers under 21 he responded, “Before we pass anything new, let’s enforce the laws we already have. Let’s start with Hunter Biden.” 🙄
We must pass federal legislation to ensure those words have meaning. 🧵⬇️
Trans communities, especially trans youth, are under attack by Republicans seeking to strip them of their rights, identities and the essential services and protections that keep them safe.
We must respond forcefully and with solutions that ensure their equality and protection.⬇️
Federal laws supersede state laws, which means Congress can directly undo the damage being done by homophobic and transphobic Republican state legislatures.
In response to these increasing attacks, I'm proud to release my Transgender Rights Agenda ⬇️ darrigo2022.com/transrights
