there is so much modern wangxian but where is the modern wangxian where wwx is a techie genius who runs an orphanage as his main job with a bit of inventing amazing things as a side hustle?

i'm really invested in this so idk it goes like wwx is obviously a genius and in his early twenties he sells some patents which set him up for life so he uses those funds to start an orphanage bc he doesn't want anyone to suffer the way he did on the streets.

he throws himself into this place and is assisted by wen ning. nhs helps with the design and aesthetic, maybe? jyl might've helped him hire good caretakers and cooks and such for the place. it takes a year or two, but he sets up this safe haven where no kid is turned away.

the first kid who stumbles in is xue yang, and wwx sees so much of himself in the boy he cries. xue Yang doesn't trust wwx but he's been starving and wwx promises him a hot meal and a soft bed, so he agrees to stay for a while. a while turns into months and years.

xue yang slowly learns to trust wwx and wn. as more kids fill the rooms, he appoints himself their da-ge, irrespective of whether they're younger or older than him. he's wwx's trusty assistant and grows up to become a vital part of the orphanage administration.

the next is mo xuanyu, who wwx brings home when he sees the poor kid being abused by his aunt. once again, the scene is painfully similar to him and he can't bare to leave the kid even tho he technically has a roof over his head. madam mo is all too happy to get rid of the boy.

mo xuanyu has too many nightmares and wwx soothes him thru all of them. he turns to his siblings in this time and jc rlly steps up, providing wwx all the support he needs in handling this kid.

when wn's cousin is born & a-yuan's mother dies in childbirth, wn brings him to the orphanage. it's a lesson in patience, raising a new born baby, but thankfully, wwx has some experience with jl. he spends many nights with a-yuan asleep on his chest while he works on new stuff.

over the years, the orphanage grows and gains a lot of attention. it's how they garner the interest of the lan industries who're looking into doing some hefty charity. and it's how wwx meets the love of his life, lan wangji.

the lans are looking to invest a hefty amount into the orphanage and so lwj has to work closely with wwx. at first, he's not entirely sure if wwx is the right person to run the orphanage bc he seems like he doesn't care about anything in life.

but then, lwj sees him with the kids and how he knows all of them so well, how he hugs them and kisses them, how he puts them to bed and makes sure they eat. how he treats every single one of them like they're his own. and he's very charmed.

then, he finds out that wwx is yllz, certified genius, who everyone wants to work with, but who never accepts any of the very lucrative job opportunities that come his way. he falls a little bit in love when he realizes that wwx gave up a life of unbridled luxury for the kids.

he falls irrevocably when he sees wwx carrying a sleeping baby around at night while also working on a new project he's looking to get patented soon. he's in his natural habitat, a baby on his hip, a laptop in front of him.

wwx has literally been in love with lwj since the day he saw the man. he remembers looming at the stoic man and being surprised that he's someone who would be interested in working with an orphanage but then he sees a little girl run up to lwj to play & lwj lights up.

with that smile on lwj's beautiful face and the happiness in his eyes, wwx never even stood a chance. so, when lwj confesses, wwx jumps up and kisses the life out of him, figuratively speaking, of course.

they date for a few years and then wwx pops the question on a quiet night while they're both surrounded by their kids. lwj has long since accepted the kids and loves them just as much as wwx does.

it's not a huge fanfare. they're having a campfire in the backyard of the orphanage and wwx looks up to see lwj pat a baby to sleep. he smiles and the words slip out, easy as breathing.

"lan zhan, let's get married, yeah?"

lwj looks up, stunned. "what?"

"will you marry me, baobei?" he repeats, asks.

lwj cannot do anything to stop the huge smile that takes over his entire face and he's frantically nodding while repeating yes like it's the only word he knows.

so, they get married, right there at the orphanage with all their kids and both their families. they live happily ever after, surrounded by love and happiness, and their tons of children. ❤
