Let's cut through some #gamedev bullshit.

Using (purchased) asset store assets in your games isn't a sin, and shouldn't be frowned on.

Get your game done. Support content creators.
If you cannot get fresh, store bought is fine.
Bullshit number 2.

Flip your assets. Why l give a shit if you reuse models from previous titles. You put the time and money in. Anyone who bitches about this has never made a game and should shut the fuck up before their dummy falls out.
Bullshit number 3: Ideas are currency.

No, devs all have lots and lots of ideas. It is DELIVERY of those ideas that matters.

Making yet another endless runner is fine... but don't you dare make anything other than a better one.
Bullshit volume 4: games should not be political. All media is political- you just don't notice the political stance if it entirely suits your needs.
Bullshit chapter 5: indy games are shitty games made by noobs. No, independent means not affiliated with a major company. Total pros often break off and make games independently.
Bullshit chapter 6: one person can make a game. Sometimes, but what you often dont see creditied in these tales is partners/family working to financially support the person making the game. They may not touch the game, but they sure count.
*credited.
Bullshit 7: game devs are lazy.

No, we are time poor. If the feature you want doesn't go in, it's either because we didn't have time.

Nobody sets out to make a bad game. We don't want that on our credits.
Bullshit 8: you need a lot of money to make a game.
Not these days. You need a lot of money to make a BIG game.
If you focus super small, using free software and invest in good premade assets/tools to speed you up- you can make your own games.
You do need to be realistic about what you can achieve, so start super dooper small.
Bullshit 9: unreal is better than unity is better than godot etc

First: at doing what? What are the criteria? You need to pick the engine that suits your game, and your style and skillset.
You can, say, pair Unity3d with playmaker, probuilder, lRP and a few plug ins and you got yourself a super easy mobile game making platform.

Are you a C++ wizard and want to do AAA pc games? Unreal is your baby.

There is no "better" just "better for your needs".
Bullshit 10: you aren't a game developer until you are hired by a studio.

You are a game developer the moment you start developing games. Even if you never ship a single one and just do it for fun, you are a developer.
Bullshit 11: you can't get rich making games. Yes, you can. One of my dear friends never needs to work again after he got a hit game.

You can't get rich making games for other people.

Either make your own game or get shares in a start up company. Wage slaves don't win.
Of course, it all depends on of you can make something people buy.

But that's the real trick, isn't it?
Hey you. Go do a little bit more work on your game.

You can do this.

Every step is a step closer

Pitch: Lucy Lui and Gillian Anderson are the queens of rival vampire clans. But beneath their ancient burning hatreds is a desire for each other that refuses to die.
And they both wear suits and glasses.
If I wasn't busy making games I should probably start writing series pitches.

Tonight's foodie experiment was something that is apparently a bit of a craze among students. You fry rice, but use the sachets from ramen as the flavour.

Two thumbs up. Works a treat.
But tonight I used both the sachets from instant mee goreng noodles... which is kecap manis based. I gave it a boost with a little shallot chilli oil and sweet chilli sauce for sweetness, and served it with fried eggs.

Meal for three from cupboard scraps.
The left over ramen can be tossed into some instant miso soup, and whisk in some kewpie mayo and an egg.

Please put the I back in LGBTIQA+
We are part of the community, and there is absolutely no healthy, not hateful reason behind the voices wanting to distance us.
You cannot be intersex and fit within the heteronormative world. You just can't.

There isn't a single intersex person in my circle who agrees with our erasure. We all point to homophobia and transphobia as the sole reason.

We belong.
Oh but parents want... shut up. Those parents want their kid to be heteronormative because they see being queer as something harmful or hurtful.
That is vile.

A fundamental problem with mathematics is that it hides beautiful poetry behind an ugly wall of pretentious language and cryptic shorthand, and guards its gates with its most desiccated corpses dressed as teachers.
I hated maths because of the ugly encounters I was forced to endure through my formative years. Abusing, arrogant teachers, walls of arcane symbols and nobody to explain them, the problems impractical, more a punishment than a power.

That isn't what maths actually is.
This is how it is sold to us...

Dm question on where to start learning to become a #gamedev technical artist.

First, drop "become" and think in terms of 'developing' as a technical artist.

It is a wide range of skills and techniques you can adopt over time, making you art more and more technical.
No two technical artists have the same skill sets, but I would say we all have the same mindset.

We like solving problems ourselves.

Tech art is just gathering up and arming yourself to tackle those problems.
No two artists the same and the same applies to technical artists.

I wouldn't be able to code c# extensions to unity right now, or write exporters for blender in python. Yet.

Why? Because I was max script and mel, then I was in unreal blueprints.
