I got a raise at my 9-5.

My wife quit her job to focus on our 6-month old baby.

A month later, I got fired.

And what happened next, changed my life forever

Imagine this.

You're broke.

You and your spouse are unemployed.

You have a 6-month old kid to feed.

You're lost and taken aback because a month prior you had been given a salary raise.

And now you have nothing.

I was born and raised lower-middle class in the Dominican Republic.

I live here. And I'm planning to raise my 2 kids here too with my wife Brenda.

For years, Brenda had told me, "Jose, you're a smart man. Why don't you start a business?"

I regret not paying attention to her...

It took hitting rock bottom for me to start my business.

Why did I wait this long?

Fear!

I feared failure

I feared being judged

But getting fired showed me what real fear feels like.

Imagine not being able to feed your kids...

I had delved into freelancing before getting canned.

But I had never actively searched for clients.

Every deal I had closed was thanks to word of mouth.

So when I got fired, I had no other choice than to get over my fears of dealing with strangers and new clients.

During my first month of unemployment I:

- Created my offer (a web design service)

- Reached out to every single contact I had on my Gmail account

- Followed up on everyone until I got either a yes or a "fuck off, and don't contact me ever again"

By the third month, I was already making more money as a freelancer than as a full-time employee.

I enjoyed the freedom.

But with freedom came comfort.

And with comfort came stagnation.

Once I was making money, I stopped looking for new clients.

Which was a dumb thing to do.

That's when I learned that:

When you're winning, you mustn't stop.

When you're winning, you must double down on what's working.

But I learned about this the wrong way... just after my biggest client didn't need my services anymore.

I was fired once again...

Being back on square one made me anxious.

I developed a weird twitch on my right eyelid.

I woke up in the middle of the night sweating and with my heart rate skyrocketing

I was on the verge of losing my marriage

I deserved all of it, though.

I got comfortable and paid for it

That's when I decided to create content on Twitter.

English is my second language.

So at first, I wrote everything in Spanish and use Google translate to get the English right.

This dumb process worked!

In my first month of selling my services online, I made 2X the amount of money I was making.

I went from being broke to making as much money in one month as the money I made in a full year.

Posting stuff on social media changed my life.

And today I help others do the same.

I help coaches, freelancers, and consultants grow their online service businesses.

I've helped my student quit their jobs.

Make their first sale online.

Generate tens of thousands of dollars online.

All while still using Google Translate from time to time to get the English right.
