I always find the sky so fascinating in #Arizona.
#Tucson
Some more pics from yesterday's sky in #Tucson.

And some sunset shots:

When I did my motorcycle tour of the Southwest back in 1995 and I was approaching the Sonoran Desert, I worried that I would find it boring. It is one of the most interesting places I have seen. Beautiful colors and the most spectacular sunsets.

I don’t know if many colleagues in the #EconTwitter community have abandoned #Twitter in favor of #Mastodon. In case anyone is interested, I don’t plan to do it, nor do I plan to start using both. 1/11
I very much dislike what Elon Musk has been doing, but there are at least two reasons that will keep me just here. The simplest one to explain is that I don’t have the time and energy to learn how to use a new platform. 2/11
I had literally zero social media presence before signing up for Twitter. After doing that, I also signed up for Facebook and (if I remember correctly) Instagram. I don’t remember the last time I logged into those accounts. 3/11

I read this post by @Noahpinion with interest: noahpinion.substack.com/p/macroeconomi… 1/n
I have no problem with much of it, but I find certain statements unfair or flat out false. It baffles me that Noah seems to think they add anything of substance to the post. 2/n
Noah writes: “Macroeconomists want their math hard enough to make them look smarter than sociologists, but not too hard that they can’t get clean-looking solutions.” 3/n

Friends and students occasionally ask me about the genesis of my 2005 QJE paper with Marc Melitz on “International Trade and Macroeconomic Dynamics with Heterogeneous Firms.” Here is the story, for anyone who may be interested. 1/n Image
It starts in January of 1999, when I was a PhD student. My job market paper developed a New Keynesian, small open economy model with internationally incomplete asset markets and used it to study alternative possible monetary policy rules for Canada. 2/n Image
As usual in the New Keynesian literature, the model assumed monopolistic competition between producers of differentiated goods. As usual in virtually all the New Keynesian literature, it assumed a fixed range of producers. 3/n
