Interesting how the diversification on this new Gossip Girl show is all female. A big move now is to have no Black guys, an attractive Black guy but he's gay, or a straight cis Black guy not a heartthrob type. Another prediction: one of the black girls will be the token gay too

if they did have a straight Black guy on, he would have been more a John Boyega type Black guy and not a Trey Songz or young Denzel type. The show Quantico had this type of casting too: diverse but only the females, so it feeds into the "world as the white man's harem" fantasy

Check for yourself and you'll keep noticing it. Diversification is usually only the women, who are often shown as gay or swirlers. The Black men are either (1) straight and hot but asexual/attached like the Rock's characters. They are not usually in the mix of cast love triangles

(2) straight+cis but very nonthreatening as competition to the white male protagonists, like John Boyega. They will not be "hunk" types. (3) gay Black male, in which case they may be allowed to be conventionally hot, but even then may still be just okay looking, (4) nonexistent

Industry is another example. I think the days of a Shemar Moore heartthrob type in the cast are pretty much done. I think this character was also gay. although I couldn't make it far enough into the show to find out

Outside of Netflix, I feel this is highly exaggerated. This girl is part of the cast and she seems unambiguously Black and darker than a paper bag. As the most unambiguousy Black cast member tho I predict she will be gay

I think the days of a Saved By the Bell where the brown guy was a hetero co-heartthrob alongside the white guy are gone. Interestingly I don't think Mario Lopez's character was even originally intended to be nonwhite (hence the name Slater), so that maybe played a role.

To be clear: I'm not bringing this up because I want more black men on these shows getting a seat at the table but to show how liberals want to do diversity. I feel the messaging in progressive media is that straight Black men are the least assimilable in the new diverse utopia

This is true. It also went against stereotypes to not have them be homophobic, which nowadays sadly is a brave risky narrative choice. I saw some fans be mad that they were explicitly shown not to be homophobic

So in case there was any doubt of the racial politics of this show this really made it clear. The black girl who is the woke Dan Humphrey of the show is reading Slave Play before dating her new beau, the white wokebae who just broke up with her sister last episode

Also his nonsensical lofty language of the character “processing” it and “exorcising” is just gibberish. Just like the real life people who saw the show and claimed they were “processing” and “unpacking,” no insights were shown or evidenced afterwards. It’s an empty vessel

I know people think I mention the show too much but it’s so obvious that it’s part of a larger almost cultural propaganda project by white liberal tastemakers and their minority mascots. A work that signals the new racially pluralistic utopian vision of (liberal) white supremacy

The slavery thing and intergenerational trauma stuff is only there to give an illusion of depth and shock value because without it the message of Slave Play is no deeper than the message of Dear White People: white people stop being racist so we can fuck you in peace

That’s why no one who watches the show once they get past the gimmicky audience trauma bonding inflicted on them can give any meaningful insight they got from “unpacking” all that traumatic slavery imagery. Because it doesn’t really matter it’s a decoy.

The message is, liberal white people we are happy being your junior partners and mascots in (liberal) white supremacy vs bad (Republican) white supremacy and we’ll even let you degrade us sexually as a bonus but stop hurting our feelings by reminding us we’re black and otherized

But to say that is really all they care about makes them look bad so they need the loftier more historically truamatic Trojan horse. But the new Gossip Girl is their utopia. Black femmes as sexual center of attention of dreamy white wokebaes but never subject to otherizing racism

In fact the one conventionally attractive white blond girl is bland and insignificant and secondary to them while the white guy only obsess over the black femmes. That’s the utopia Slave Play wants and why it’s featured as what the girl is reading

So I just checked the showrunner's bio and sure enough he worked on the other "World as the white man's harem" diversity show, Quantico! I wasn't imagining the theme! lol

Because then they can't center White men. This is the new cost of doing business. If white men are required to do diversity to keep working/stay relevant, this is how they can do it + still preserve white male centrality. Look up "social dominance theory"
