what's going on in the judge rotenberg centre right now because nobody seems to be talking about it, a thread

(this is some context as it was a draft written on the 4th of may, I will add more recent stuff onto it)

as someone in a stan community I know the reach so many people can have and this is such an important thing to me, an #ActuallyAutistic person and advocate.

I encourage you to read till the end and participate in speaking out and raising autistic and disabled voices right now.

the judge rotenberg centre is an institution and school in massachusetts for people with "developemental disabilities, emotional disorders and autistic like behaviours"

the centre has been condemned for torture by the united nations special rapporteur on torture and using GEDs -

or graduated electronic decelerator, a device that administers electric shocks on residents.

it relies on aba therapy, aversion therapy, contingent food programs, long term restraints, sensory deprivation and GED shocks.

the electric shock devises were banned by the FDA last year but it was then put on hold due to covid and people are still receiving these horrific punishments to this day.

six disabled people have died at the JRC since it was founded and the centre has been condemned by the UN.

however despite repeated attempts to shut down the centre by autism rights advocates, disability righta advocates and human rights advocates this centre remains open and has a "zero rejects policy" that accepts every child to there program.

please join autistic, developmentally or intellectually disabled people with posting a photo of yourself holding a sign that says "Judge Rotenberg Centre, #StopTheShocks!" along with any message you want to include.

the reason i never tweeted this thread back then was because despite my many attempts to talk about issues the autistic community was facing, no one seemed to care.

I gave up, and just continued rting threads from other autistic advocated to try and get some of-

please also take note, this is not something that has just happened, its not fucking new, we have been dealing with this shit for years.

i wrote this after reading this thread by autisticats in april,,,,

and now of course it has been ruled that the FDA's initial decision has been overturned and it is now fine for them to keep using electroshock therapy,,,
