One of the big takeaways from our COVID journey is to get your children tested immediately if they have symptoms.

The doctor who tested our daughter said we were the first positive child case in his clinic "...not because she's the first to get the virus here" he said, "but because parents don't bring their children in and get them tested."

By verifying her positive quickly, we set off the alarm for our family, began quarantine, and helped avoid inadvertently spreading the virus to hundreds of people before we developed symptoms.

Again, the story isn't just about you, it's about the vaccinated and unvaccinated people you are crossing paths with and will cross paths with.

Please err on the side of caution.

The doctor also said that he is sure our family's story will be commonplace, "until the vaccine is approved for children and until more adults choose to get vaccinated. That's just going to be our reality."

When the doctor told my daughter she was positive, her first words were, “I hope I didn’t get other people sick.” I said, “All we can do right now is make sure no one else can.” That’s what this is about: education and empathy.
