When fire consumed Lytton, claiming lives and ruining others, there was a further loss: the destruction of a precious collection of Chinese-Canadian heritage at the Lytton Chinese History Museum scmp.com/news/china/dip… via @SCMPNews
This tiny, award-winning gem of a museum housed 1,600 artefacts documenting the contributions and travails of Chinese miners, rail workers and others in the region. All lost now ImageImage
The museum was the award-winning passion project of Lorna Fandrich, its owner, creator and curator (pic by Lytton Chinese History Museum) Image
It stood on the site of a Chinese temple (aka joss house), which served Lytton's Chinese community until 1928. That's the temple, front and centre, nearest the camera, in this pic c1885 (City of Vancouver archives) Image
Anyway, it grieves me that I never got to visit this lovely looking little museum. I hope that Lorna and her supporters find a way to keep the spirit of the project alive Image

#MengWanzhou has suffered a major blow to her extradition battle, with the judge REJECTING a trove of HSBC documents as evidence scmp.com/news/china/dip… via @SCMPNews
Meng's lawyers had pinned high hopes that these documents would prove that the US fraud case against Meng was bogus, that the Americans had misled the BC Supreme Court, and that Meng would be freed. BUT NO DICE
Canadian govt lawyers (representing US interests) said the hundreds of pages of documents were irrelevant to an extradition hearing and should be raised at Meng's trial instead. Associate Chief Justice Heather Holmes didn't release reasons, but it appears she agreed

Why do nerd billionaires all eventually try to pretend to be cool? Isn’t it enough to be the richest, most powerful men on the planet? Stop acting like Tony Stark and stop going to the gym so much, it’s embarrassing

My Mum and Dad met as children in the 1930s, partnered up as teenagers, and were inseparable until the day pa exited this world a few years back. Just a random tweet of admiration, folks Image
Both families simply assumed them to be a love match from the time they were very small children. How unusual to live your whole life - like, from the time of your first memories - knowing that you had found The One? And being right! It's incredible, when I think about it Image
As children we grew up listening each night to Mum and Dad talking in bed. Both were busy (five kids!), and so this was when they'd catch up and discuss their day. After Dad passed, Mum never broke the habit. She ended each day with a conversation to the empty side of the bed

On This Day, 17 years ago, a lost dog walked into our home in Australia while workers were delivering a refrigerator Image
We assumed, wrongly, he was theirs. They assumed, wrongly, he was ours. He did not care and made himself at home by jumping into my wife's lap and immediately falling asleep
We fed him & wondered WTF, this is amazing. We left the doors open thinking, ok, maybe he lives nearby & will go home. Nope. But a few hours later, after eating most of a loaf of bread, he saw a family walking by on the riverfront and scampered off to join them. Kids were v happy

This is one of the dudes seen at Justin Trudeau's dumpling-rolling party/Liberal fundraiser at the Vancouver home of Pan Miaofei: "Chinese-Canadian businessman Xiao Hua Gong cuts record-breaking $70m deal with NZ police over frozen assets" via @nzherald nzherald.co.nz/nz/chinese-can…
That's him, Edward Gong, on the far left
Sidebar: the other guest of honour at this shindig was Chen Yongtau, who sat next to Trudeau
