I'm happy I told you how much you did for me and others when I had the chance. I'm happy for the wisdom you gave me. You aren't there anymore and in a just world you would be.
The world is poorer today because you aren't in it anymore Erin @GilmerHealthLaw.
For those who don't know about Erin, she is a stone at the very foundation of the #insulin4all movement, and the modern #disability movement. Her blog is still a treasure trove of information and thoughts and strategy - I hope a book gets made healthasahumanright.wordpress.com/about/
I don't even remember how we got talking at first but for years Erin was there to bounce strategy off of, analyze bills, discuss tactics. Whatever small progress we've made, Erin helped make it happen. I always enjoyed our talks - not just about health or politics.
Truth is Erin lived in pain. Immense physical pain. Immense emotional pain. Mental pain. And yes she lashed out.
But there was always that kernel of truth in her criticisms and critiques. If Erin wasn't onside with what you were doing, you had to re-evaluate
You put in the work. I remember talking with you after you testified for a bill in Colorado, you were crying in pain, both physically from moving yourself across the building, and emotionally wondering if the energy was worth it. Goddamn you had heart.
In a just world, you wouldn't have spent your last years in poverty, in isolation (though I know Elliot the cat brought you solace). In a just world people like you would be cared for
We're not there yet but when we get there it will be because of you
