The Lambda strain is puzzling @WHO after spreading to 30 countries in four weeks.
“Lambda has a unique pattern of seven mutations in the spike protein that the virus uses to infect human cells,” Jeff Barrett of British Covid-19 Genomics told Financial Times
While the strain is deemed highly transmissible, the @WHO stresses “further studies are required to validate continued effectiveness of vaccines,” against Lambda strain.
Canadian health officials say as of July 8, 11 cases of the Covid-19 mutation have been reported.
