Whatever your opinion on covid is, we can't deny one thing:
Its marketing department did one hell of a job
Let's analyze covid from a marketing perspective
(Yes, I'm biased):
It's 2019
AKA the "hype campaign"
We all kinda know what covid is, but not really
The "unknown far away sickness" seed gets planted in our brain
Now it "hits" the US and everyone freaks out
"OMG it's a real thing"
Humans hate uncertainty so what do they do?
Rush towards what will give them certainty:
We got told "if you buy masks and sanitize everything you'll be fine"
So what did people do?
Buy masks and sanitize everything
The "potential danger" at this point was bigger than the amount of money they had to spend
Fear sells.
Introducing, Flatten The Curve
I compare this to a "lead"
In marketing, a "lead" is the first paragraph of an ad that's selling you something
It's a small commitment with no end in sight, but because it's small and interesting you take it anyway
Same with the first lockdowns
It was a "3 week break" until everything "settled down"
Little did we know we were in for a fucking ride
1 more month
3 more months
6 more months
Classic "keep you in the edge of your seat" behavior
But then we started to get restless
And what did the media do?
This, to me, was brilliant:
They went from "Us vs. Covid"
To "Mask vs. No Mask"
And turned the war into a civil war
They made us angry, fearful and resentful at each other
"A house divided against itself cannot stand"
-Lincoln
This is when we lost
When we started taking sides
And the government knew it
This kept us occupied for months until the vaccine came along
Now it was even MORE divisive
Vaccine vs. No Vaccine
Mask vs. No Mask
They literally split us in 4 ways
Yes, it pissed me off but I recognize the genius behind it
Now we're kind of in that limbo between "what's going on?"
And that's what the government wants
A confused population with no idea what to think
My take is fuck covid and fuck vaccines and fuck masks
But you can think whatever you want
One thing I guarantee:
If you see this as a giant marketing campaign, you'll understand it way better
Talk soon,
JK

2. Does this hit a psychological bias?
Don't ask yourself "what's the bias here?" every time.
There are hundreds, and it's just inefficient.
But study these for 1 week and watch what happens to your writing.
