[thread]

I am going to praise @Nigel_Farage

Yup

I am going there

I would like to thank him for his honesty
I am going to focus on that occasion of his honesty

I want to use it to illustrate a question on the why he was honest and the how in the manner of how he said it
His "honesty" was evidenced on the morning of the 24th June 2016

"We have a £10 billion a year featherbed"

huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/nigel-fa…
Now after Nigel admitted that Vote Leave were liars

He was accused of being a “traitor”, a “turncoat”

He was also attacked by Tim Montgomerie - who claimed that the facts haven’t changed

He was also attacked by Patrick O'Flynn who criticised speaking up over "one stat"
I am joking of course

@Nigel_Farage wasn't attacked by @montie or by @oflynnsocial

That was @sarahwollaston

Oh who in addition to being accused of being a traitor and turncoat was also accused of being a whore and a bitch

byline.com/2016/06/09/the…
Also @sarahwollaston

“For someone like me who has long campaigned for open and honest data in public life I could not have set foot on a battle bus that has at the heart of its campaign a figure that I know to be untrue,”

theguardian.com/politics/2016/…
So you could ask that question

Of everyone who campaigned for Vote Leave

How did you reconcile doing so with the lie at the heart of the campaign

Well I suppose you did the obvious thing

You hid may lies there and just accepted you didn't care about lying
So I am going to return to Nigel now

When did you realise that the £350 million a week figure was not true?

Why did you not warn voters they were being lied to?

Surely you would want the voters to have faced that with an honest prospectus?
The last 3 questions are rhetorical of course.

Nigel had a brief moment of honesty in his admission of Vote Leave's lie.

But even in the manner of his honesty - he was still lying

“No, I can’t [guarantee the money would go to the NHS]. I would never have made that claim."
The video from that Question Time appearance

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
So the reason I am doing a thread on honesty

Goes to something the Prime Minister said on 7th July 2021 at the Liaison Committee

When avoiding an honest answer to the question of did he sack Matt Hancock the Prime Minister like any liar does

The Liaison's Committee site here:

committees.parliament.uk/committee/103/…
The specific transcript for the day here:

committees.parliament.uk/oralevidence/2…
The specific section I am going to focus on (as per the video)
So never mind that Boris Johnson cannot answer the question on Matt Hancock honestly

That doesn't matter
In trying to deflect from that

He *actually* reaches for *one* of his most shameless lies to try and defend
So Boris reaches for

"Actually, it turned out to be, if anything, Sir Bernard, a slight underestimate. By this year, the gross figure would have been considerably higher."

So there is nothing in Boris' words that actually defends the lies of we send the EU £350 million a week
We do not send the EU £350 million a week

The UK gets a rebate that is applied before we send any monies to the EU

Had the bus said We send (net figure)

Then it would have been truthful
The OBR July 2015 Economic And Fiscal Outlook Fiscal Supplementary Tables

Section 2.24 Transactions with the European Union

Make this very clear

However that document appears to have been vanished

google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j…
There are of course plenty of places that fact check it

No not @CCHQPress and "Fact Check UK"

blogs.channel4.com/factcheck/fact…
The UK Statistics Authority also made it clear

statisticsauthority.gov.uk/wp-content/upl…
So I could give more places that rebutted Boris Johnson and the lie on the red bus of "We send the EU £350 million a week"

But to be honest I can't be fucking arsed

He lied

Even Nigel Farage admitted it was a lie

Boris Johnson knows it was a lie

It was deliberately done
So the question is

To those who were lied to

Why do you accept the lie?

Why do you defend the lie?

Margaret Thatcher once said "The manner of winning is a matter of honour"

Does honour matter?
Boris of course when trying to avoid questions on the lie of £350 million a week

Got to the stage where he actually rifled through a presenters list of questions before being asked them

theguardian.com/politics/2017/…
You can also do this for other topics e.g. Turkey

Boris Johnson: “I didn’t say anything about Turkey in the referendum campaign. I didn’t say a thing about Turkey,”

theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
ALSO

Vote Leave doctored a video of the Turkish Parliament to incite racism, xenophobia and islamophobia

You know the lies

You know the racism and xenophobia

You know the cheating

Don't bother justifying it

Take the 50 p brexit coin and fuck off

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
The sad thing

Is that those who were lied to

Even after Nigel Farage has admitted that Boris Johnson and Vote Leave lied

They still believe

They still defend it

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
The contempt that those who lied to you have is endless

Their best wheeze

Is trying to say that those who are pointing out the lies are the people who have contempt for you

We aren't

The people who lied to you do want you to be angry

At those who point out you were lied to
As we end this week with a reminder on the UK liabilities owed to the EU - the divorce bill

I remember the days

When brexiteers told us

1) We had no liabilites at all

AND

2) The EU would give us a great deal because of us paying our liabilities

Note: the two statements above are completely irreconcilable

Note: They are also utter bullshit
Hence why over 5 years the spinning of brexiteers as they try to spin it

Has been quite pathetic

A reminder:

"During the transition period, until the end of 2020, the UK will pay into the EU budget almost as if it were a Member State. "

commonslibrary.parliament.uk/withdrawal-agr…
This article here gives a good breakdown of what the UK's liabilities are

Some elements have went down in their estimation

Some up

rte.ie/news/brexit/20…
Funnily enough also

Anyone remember the days when brexiteers said that EU accounts were not audited

Well from that RTE article

"They are provisional accounts until the European Court of Auditors signs off on them in November."
A reminder on that British media
So not only have we paid for 4 more years of membership

AND got a worse deal

AND put a border in the Irish Sea no unionist could support

AND had the economic damage of sterling impact , BOE stimulus and GDP damage

We pay an additional 4 years of membership as a divorce bill
The question is not is Boris Johnson a liar

The question is why does it not trouble you that Boris Johnson is a liar

At what point would you care?

Who do his incompetence & lies have to harm before you will care?
A reminder

His MPs in June 2020 wanted to EXPLOIT coronavirus to hide the damage of brexit

That is abhorrent

It is shameful

I would say thank you to those MPs at least they somewhere internally admit the damage of brexit

and are afraid
And here we are in summer 2021

Over 120,000 are dead

And now

Those same lying shit rag newspapers and propagandists who sold you Conservativism and brexit

Want you to "normalise" the glorious dead
So as Boris lets it rip (again)

Ask @BorisJohnson

Why can he not explain the policy and defend it honestly and competently?

But more importantly ask yourself

Why do you not care?

The other quote from the Liaison Committee I focused on is below:

[thread] on @UKPrimeMinister @BorisJohnson and his decisions in relation to #FreedomDay

I want Boris to be right

I want him to lead

The fact that neither of those things is true or will happen

Does not remove my hope

It just demonstrates the fucking futility of it all
So first of all

I want covid to be over

I don't want to wear masks any more

I don't want to face restrictions from public health policies

But
I want this to be done in a way that is based on data

And takes an approach based on the risks

Of infection

Of hospitalisation

Of death

Of long covid

of the disruption that isolating due to infection has

And of the disruption that isolating due to risk of exposure has

[thread] Now @joymorrissey blocked me a while back

Just for pointing out the words and record of her party

And I want to thank her for that

Because it means I don't get to see her doing things like this

No I am not talking about the portrait of the Queen

It is an MP sharing a photograph with a backdrop of her work computer in the background showing the screen active

That's a bit of an information security risk if she had anything sensitive on screen at the time
Oh and on the Queen's portrait

I would ask

In what way does she think lying to the Queen to unlawfully prorogue Parliament represents British values?

This is great news

This is brilliant news

Good business, workers and their families

Sadly

For Owen

It shows how desperate liars are

Not only to lie about it

But to exploit it

So I could just do this as a really short thread

There is one simple question to ask anyone who sells the lies like Owen does above

Precisely what did brexit enable us to do to encourage this company investment decision that we were not able to do pre-brexit?
Oh yes and don't try and link this

The UK will still be bound by EU rules and by WTO rules EVEN AFTER THIS

And it has not happened yet

[thread] I know it has been a long pandemic

It has been a long (at the time of writing) year and a half

On 23rd January 2020

Matt Hancock assured us the British government was "well prepared"

I am going to remind you of some other words that Matt has used over the same period
Matt Hancock 3rd April 2020

"However, the British public are, in a very large part, following the new rules, and the police are policing them largely with their normal consent-based attitude and approach. "

rev.com/blog/transcrip…
Matt Hancock 5th April 2020

"we do absolutely require people to follow them. And we have had these questions about the boundaries of the rules and people pushing the boundaries. "
