Being reported that 2 of those captured are Americans. Joseph Vincent and James Solanges. Solanges is President of Jacmel First, a South Florida charity supporting children in Haiti. His bio identifies him as a former Canadian embassy bodyguard and 'certified diplomatic agent'

Solanges was recently a security guard for Dimitri Vorbe, a Moïse critic and businessman who leads Haiti’s SOGENER electricity company.
Vorbe has a history of arrest warrants in Haiti and detention in the US for his suspected complicity in a case of corruption and money laundering to the detriment of the Haitian State.
Vorbe was also one of the suspects in a conspiracy to encourage acts of aggression against the American Embassy in Haiti, accoring to haitian-truth.org
Olivier Gertan, another of those arrested has a history of drug crime and weapons crime under the Aristide government. He worked on a special security team for Youri Latortue back in 2004, arriving in Haiti after the departure of Aristide.
He arrived alongside both Neil and Gerard Latortue. He has worked up until now as a weapons buyer for Youri Latortue. For those unfamiliar, Senator Youri Latortue served as President of the Haitian Senate from Jan 2017-Jan 2018. Neil Latortue is the mayor of Gonaïves, Haiti.
Another interesting aspect to all of this is Solanges may have been employed either full-time or part-time fo oversee security at a Nissan dealership owned by Vorbe. The 5 vehicles used in the attack appear to be new Nissans.
In a secret US Embassy cable from 2006 released by Wikileaks, former US ambassador Janet Sanderson described Youri Latortue as "one of the most brazenly corrupt of leading Haitian politicians.”
In other cables former US ambassador James Foley accused Latortue of being connected to drug traffickers and running "a network of dirty cops and gangs".

It appears that Latortue and company have finally pushed back out a government that wasnt completely compliant to legacy players, both Haitian and international, demands for political changes.
In 2019 the now dead Moise met with U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Kelly Craft, about ways to implement a consensual resolution of Haiti's political crisis. Craft later met with several political leaders from other parties & listened to their different views. Moise didnt play ball.
Haiti’s interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph, however, told the BBC that the 53-year-old president may have been targeted because he was fighting “oligarchs” in the country.

This would align with the idea that legacy players wanted him out and the assassination was the only way to do it as he had resisted dialogue on change and new elections as many claimed his term was up on Feb 7, 2021. Moise felt his term did not end until 2022.
