Politically, this should have been a good week for the MB government. Vaccine numbers are decent. Case counts receding. But the premier found a way to derail his own agenda, again. So why do the PCs keep him office? Will the MLAs speak out? A few thoughts. 1/?
2. We're now seeing senior civil servants speaking out in the press. Notably, they praise Friesen, Clarke and Cullen for actually working collaboratively. The wildcard is Pallister. He an ability to inflame and burn down. winnipegfreepress.com/local/no-recon…
Also interesting to see the Premiers office not attempting to ANY damage control here. Rather, they continue to double down. Pallister believes he's done great things for Indigneous folks, so therefore it must be true. Sounds like a positive two way relationship.
There seems to be an unwillingness by Pallister to demonstrate that he's learned about the history of Indigenous folks in out province, both before and post colonization. His attitude and perspectives likely haven't and won't change. cbc.ca/news/canada/ma…
Again in the CBC, Bart Kives has an excellent analysis wondering if this is time for the PC Party to move on from Pallister. To paraphrase Peter Mackay, he's becoming an albatross around his party's neck. cbc.ca/news/canada/ma…
From that article, Dr. Kelly Saunders (who leans to the right).
"These were not politically smart comments for him to make, even if he thought it, even if he deeply holds these beliefs. It's one thing to think it; It's another thing to say it."
Pallister had lead the PCs through a disastrous pandemic performance. He's unpopular and risks leading the party to electoral disaster. So will the party pull the plug on him now, before it's too late?

Let's be 100% clear: the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms is only apologizing because they were caught hiring a private investigator to dig up dirt on Manitoba's Chief Justice. They knew exactly what they were doing. Any attempt to save face is just damage control.
And today is a great day for journalists and the public to ask who exactly these folks are and who funds them. #mbpoli
