As a lawyer, she should be aware of what the laws on stalking are and that she can make these false allegations against people and face no professional consequences is incredible. ↓
I was also one of the first people to raise questions about the disproportionate treatment she was receiving for what at the time seemed like a misunderstanding by writing about this ludicrous and inhumane petition. ↓
I now have a far better understanding of what went on at Yale in the spring 2018 semester and just as the one-sided demonizing narrative told by the students she called the police on is not the whole story, neither is her one-sided demonizing narrative. ↓
I was covering her drawn out effort (prolonged by the pandemic) to get the Yale Police to release body cam footage of her interactions with officers but I stopped because it wasn’t worth the fallout and most people weren't interested. ↓
Her online abuse campaign against others has been a silencing tactic that has even caused people who might otherwise have been interested in defending her to remain silent. ↓
People don’t want to get involved given what’s happened to some of us who highlighted and discussed problems in the prevailing media and social media narratives at the time who she now smears. ↓
And for those who would say “well no one will help her“, this is false. Since 2018 I’ve seen dozens of kind people offer sound advice and concrete help (including at least one who knew her) that she's rejected, presumably because she doesn’t want what they’re offering. ↓
It’s absolutely her right to reject help from these people but the idea that no one wanted to help is fiction. ↓
Additionally, harassing people for 3 years by sending them dozens if not hundreds of tweets with false allegations and then demanding they help you is not a winning strategy. People have told her this, many, many times and she explicitly says she doesn't want to hear it. ↓
There is no grand conspiracy here. No one is obliged to help someone who abuses others and having mental health issues is not a license or an excuse for behaving abusively. Sometimes it can explain the behavior but it doesn’t make it acceptable. ↓
and listen to full audio of the 11/4/19 Connecticut (CT) Freedom of Information Commission hearing (obtained via a freedom of information request) here:
Tl;dr: Yale doesn’t have to release the body cam footage because in it, she made uncorroborated allegations of trespass and harassment against the student she woke up from a nap and Yale appears to view her has the instigator, not the harassee as she claimed. ↓
Yale contends that releasing the footage would allow her to continue targeting the other student more than 3 years later since she stated that her goal in obtaining the footage is to release it publicly. ↓
Connecticut law permits body cam footage to be withheld if it contains uncorroborated allegations of a crime.
The CT Freedom of Information Commission dismissed her case because Yale is following the law, but she appealed to CT Superior Court. ↓
No decision yet but the CT Freedom of Information Commission requested that the court dismiss the case and affirm their decision.
Yale requested that the court affirm the CT Freedom of Information Commission decision. ↓
There’s a lot more that I could say on this case but I’ll refrain from doing so for now.
If you’ve been targeted by her (or similar people) and need support or info, my DMs are open. ◆
Predictably, my threads & @CathyYoung63’s threads have resulted in additional targeting of us. I knew this was a risk but I felt something had to be said. This is why I didn’t name other targets. ↓
Adding this thread from @jduffyrice who SB has been targeting since last year over one tweet.
Josie is one of dozens of people she's posted false claims about. I didn’t want to give examples because it would have resulted in additional/renewed abuse.
With Josie, SB’s tweets are at times nearly daily. What Josie describes is similar to what others have experienced. ↓
The sad thing is that when I’ve talked to other targets, with few exceptions they have all volunteered that they wish her well and hope she gets the help she needs.
Some have even tried to connect her with professional help. She either declines or doesn’t take them up on it. ↓
While I’m empathetic to the toll the public mobbing can have on anyone, that doesn’t excuse what she’s done since.
She has shown zero consideration for the mental health of her dozens of targets and has justified it based on this. ↓
The people she surrounds herself with tell her she’s right and at times join in on harassing her targets as Josie noted. ↓
I didn’t say this earlier because I feel it should go without saying, but I really hope someone in her life can find a way to get her the help she obviously needs. ↓
Having suicidal ideation is a terrible place to live (I know firsthand) and it’s not something anyone should have to live with. ↓
If you’re in the US and you or someone you know needs help, you can reach out to @NAMICommunicate or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 800-273-8255. ↓
Reach out to friends who may need to hear from you. Some are struggling with the transition from pandemic life to so-called post-pandemic life (the pandemic is not over but many are acting like it is).
1. #LongCOVID resource for those who might need it or know someone who does — I found a map of where in the US there are Post COVID Care Centers. We currently have them in 43 states. Click on state for detail.
1. I didn't know Cathy was going to write this when I responded to her other thread but deeply appreciate it. 🙏
There's no good way to combat misinformation about yourself but I haven't wanted anyone else to get dragged into this mess so I've stayed silent on this for months.
2. Some of it was happening when I was dealing with medical crises and added to my stress level because I had to spend time documenting everything in case it escalated and I needed it later.
3. I knew that talking about it publicly would likely make the situation worse but having talked with other people who have experienced much worse than I have, I'm done staying silent on this.
1. Wow, these police chiefs in the western suburbs of Minneapolis sound desperate and defeated. They’re from Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Maple Grove, Plymouth, and New Hope where gun violence is at a level “they’ve never seen before”.
2. Brooklyn Park Police Chief Craig Enevoldsen:
“It’s intentional that you didn’t hear from us.”
“Nobody wanted to hear from us for 15, 18 months and we finally just decided for the betterment of our community we gotta say something.”
3. When asked what’s going on, Brooklyn Park resident Cinnecole Lee says “We have no idea, Tom.”
Of the people committing gun violence she says “they don’t respect the police department anymore, they don’t respect themselves by being out here doing what they’re doing."
1. Smith alumna Jodi Shaw '93, who resigned from her role as a Residence Life Student Support Coordinator in February (was formerly their Reference, Instruction & Outreach Librarian) is exploring a run for mayor of Northampton, where Smith is located.
1. I ended up at an emergency appointment yesterday to see my PCP’s NP because I called to inquire about some bizarre burning pain I had in or behind my left breast on Tuesday.
I was just calling to ask how concerned I should be & the asst offered me an appt in an hour. 😬
2. NP was very nice, asked me lots of questions, wanted to do an EKG to make sure it wasn’t my heart (I have high blood pressure), did a physical exam which hurt though I hadn’t had the burning pain since Tuesday.
Tl;dr: I seem to be fine.
3. She felt that whatever it was, it wasn’t in my breast but under/behind it. Most likely some sort of muscle issue, possibly a cyst. She offered me an ultrasound order but ultrasounds increase my pain so I wasn’t keen on going and spending time at the hospital to get it done.
1. Always fascinating to read tweets from people who have no earthly idea what is going on in a situation and are being misled by a conflict entrepreneur but don’t know enough to know what they don’t know.
2. Because these folks are often in a bubble of their own making, they can’t get any outside info to learn more and debunk what they think they know, although even if that info is made available to them, they wouldn’t believe it.
3. Also fascinating how these conflict entrepreneurs can get into a toxic feedback loop with their followers/enablers. Their falsehoods are supported by the people who believe them and don’t know better and keep telling them to keep going on the basis of the false info.
