People are catching hold of the wrong end of the stick here. At the time of Kumbh Mela, India had HERD immunity, LOW infection rates. That's why we had Kumbh. It's a NEW variant that brought on the 2nd wave.

Please understand that the Kappa is not the only variant. We have variants UP TO Kappa, and it's continuously mutating.
So, the fact is that a mass gathering like this is a huge risk in spreading NEW variants.

Efficacy against K variant is still under testing. All we know is that AstraZeneca "is effective" against K. We don't know HOW effective. So please hold your horses before arguing just for the heck of it, missing the BIAS of BBC being discussed.

People have grandly missed -- or deliberately want to ignore -- the hate, Hinduphobia & disrespect meted out to India & Hindus on a global scale for Kumbh. Why weren't the geniuses protesting against lockdowns then? All rules & "science" for India, all freedom for the West?
Hindus supported & welcomed the move of closing the Kumbh early, breaking centuries old traditions, because it was important for people's lives. I don't see any such sentiment in the Euro cup.
