Sooraj Bhan ji was the former governor of Uttarpradesh and Himanchal. He started his Childhood education in an arya samaji gurukul. Being distressed He later joined a school run by Jains. He was a face of Dalit upliftment.
The incident I'm going to narrate occurred in aug 2002 .

He reached Sringeri Shankracharya peetham to meet HH Shankracharya Bharti Tirth MahaSwami. He sought the support of Sringeri Shankracharya ji "to delete the objectionable statements regarding Shudras from Manusmriti and others.
Sringeri Shankracharya ji consented and provided his assurance for the upliftment of Dalits but regarding the "amendment in scriptures" he said:- "It's appropriate to consult other Shankracharyas,He inspired Suraj Bhan ji to meet Puri Shankracharya ji"
The Date of 2nd August 2005 was fixed. Suraj Bhan ji along with Many ministers of govt of India reached the Govardhan math puri.
Suraj bhan ji expressed his feelings in fifteen minutes. One of his statements was:-

"Shankracharya ji If hindus are to be saved ,please remove the disparity in the name of castes. Please give Dalits the right to become preists etc. Half of the Hindu population belongs to Dalits.
"Manusmriti and ramcharitmanas can be reprinted after deleting objectionable words regarding Shudras".
Shankracharya ji cleared his doubts one by one, The answers were overwhelming and filled with affection. In the end He offered fruits and clothes to Suraj Bhan ji and his Retinue.
Overwhelmed with love,Sooraj Bhanji said, "My closed eyes have opened. I shall be coming for darshan from time to time. It was my fault that I could not get our conversation recorded. One of your disciples has recorded it. I entreat that your personal secretary may send it to me"
This beautiful conversation is published in the form of a short book called "The wonderful Dialogues" in English and "#विचित्रसंवाद" in Hindi.
