In the last 100 days, I've gone from 2k to ~22k twitter followers.
Fast right?
Not really if you account for the year prior where all I did was debate the best way to share my entrepreneurial learnings.
Here is:
- What I did
- WHY I did it
- What I learned
👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
First, my personal WHY: I want to help others learn/grow to be the best versions of themselves through the power of entrepreneurship.
It took me many years of coaching and reflection to realize this is what "I can't not do."
I love entrepreneurship. I love learning/growth.
Earlier this year, I started @GatewayX to live this personal Why.
It's early but the gameplan for now is:
A venture studio/holdco where 1) all the companies are bootstrapped (i.e. get profitable fast) and 2) its a single culture/org. We invest/buy/build. Mostly build.
The strategy is flexible but right now we are focused on DTC Brands & DTC Enablement (SaaS and Services).
To further with my personal why + setup @GatewayX for the most success, I decided to start investing in my personal brand.
This started April 1st, 2021.
Here are the most recent stats:
My goals:
- Help others learn/grow through entrepreneurship (i.e. share what I know so it helps others)
- Attract some of the best talent out there
- Drive commercial opportunities for @ampush@GrowthAssistant@SubscriptionBox and of course, @GatewayX
Here is the story...
On April 1st, I was featured on @patrick_oshag's amazing podcast!
This (long) podcast outlines a lot of what I want to share with the world: entrepreneurship, bootstrapping, DTC, customer acquisition, conscious leadership & personal growth.
I also paired that podcast with my first thread ever... about one of the biggest mistakes I see early entrepreneurs make in customer acqusition: Not knowing their "revenue event"
I had some threads that were super successful. They are usually a) personal stories, b) stories about other entrepreneurs or c) some specific knowledge I have about DTC/growth mktg/entrepreneurship.
For example, this thread about early days Ampush struggle really resonated (and my wife even got involved!)
1) JUST DO IT - I spent months thinking, debating, discussing and that led to... NOTHING.
Within a few weeks of writing threads, interacting, sharing stories, I had LEARNED more than all of 2020 + had results. Bias. to. Action.
2) Be Authentic - EVERYONE has unique "unfair advantages" and experiences they can share.
Find yours and own them. Again, I debated if my knowledge/POV was important/meaningful/thoughtful enough.
But I was just myself and that led to amazing things...
3) Learn/Iterate - my first threads were not good.
I made mistakes like posting the link in the first tweet.
But I kept writing and learning. Some worked, some didnt... I just kept on "shipping"
I only promised to make each thread better than the last.
Bonus tips/Starter Guide for Twitter:
- Start by following a bunch of interesting people
- Participate in their threads/convos, ask questions/say smart stuff. b urself!
- Try to get to 1k this way, then start writing threads
- OPEN up and USE DMs... they are amazing
Facebook advertising is undergoing the largest change in its history: iOS14.5+.
Adopted users are now 70% of its spend.
Everything. Is. Different.
Here are my 4 recommendations to keep winning in this new world:

Recc #1 - Test consolidated account structures and narrowed targeting strategies RIGOROUSLY.
The change in privacy means less data for FB. So, 14+ years of an algorithm built on user data has to change and so does your strategy…
Let’s start with an example: before iOS14.5+, Facebook could track “Sara” from her clicks on an ad to her specific activity on a brand’s site, store this data and continue to collect, building up a database on Sara’s patterns.
