Long term politicians and bureaucrats create parallel structures within their own agencies or working groups to clear themselves of any crimes or investigations that may arise. It's why almost no one is ever punished.
For every act of criminality or nastiness that you hear about r/t a politician, 100 things never hit the airwaves buried by loyalties and purposeful insulation built up over time with handshakes, dinners, trips, cash, and favors.
If mainstream reporters had ANY self respect and care for what happens to this country they'd stop hiding political misdeeds and dump everything they know. It would be an avalanche. Now they'd never get another story bc silence is what gets you another little leak or lead.
It would put them all out of a job. And they'd prefer sound bites from politician A about politician B rather than just exposing that both A and B are rooted in the same corruption. Its part of what keeps our system together. The immoral loyalty needed to get the next story.
They are as much a part of the bureaucratic insulation as people like Comey, Strzok, and Page. They do the same for the Pelosi's and McConnell's of the world. Its a game that few ever get to see and even fewer report on. It's career ending in most cases. Ask Christopher Sign.
