I think that not only were they breaking the absolute limits of architecture, but that it was somehow also breaking into the spiritual realm. I know this is a memri meme but I think that when humans create things of beauty (not merely aesthetics), something spiritual happens
The Tower of Babel was probably that. Think on it, we still marvel at ancient architecture like the pyramids and stuff and the general consensus is that humans today do not have the means to replicate it even with modern tech. Idk, probably a hint in there somewhere.
Maybe this is a topic for someone like Jimmy Akins or Owen Cyclops.

You went looking for obscure passages so much you forgot the first, basic reason the bible gives for things going wrong in the world - the sin of Adam, original sin.
Only john doesn't mention the darkness, and that is consistent as his account of the crucifixion is one of the shortest and his main aim seemed to be corresponding Jesus' death with the old testament prophecies, not the finer details of the day.
Its okay for john to have a different perspective.
I'm going to refute this point by point using genesis. Wait a bit.
The most popular theory of universe formation asserts that the earth formed when gravity pulled the earth together from dust and gasses. Hawking uses a meaningless metaphor. The earth is a sphere *now*. Ironically, The Big Bang was proposed by a Catholic priest.
