/n Am I happy to have been completely exonerated by a 7-month investigation into complaints made against me and the former Vice Chair? And that @TheVeganSociety has issued a public statement to that effect (i.e. vegansociety.com/investigation-…)?
/n While @TheVeganSociety proudly tweeted that it had "joined the @CharityAgstHate initiative to challenge posts that incite hate... on #SocialMedia", it took no meaningful action when a disabled Black non-binary trustee was targeted on account of such protected characteristics.
/n What was this if not a coordinated campaign of racist, transphobic, and ableist bullying against the @TheVeganSociety's youngest voluntary trustee, but which the society (a certain section of Council, in particular) seems willing to ignore?
/n Even now the QC's report has rejected all but a couple of minor complaints (i.e. two social media posts were "unprofessional" as they related back to the society) the bullies continue - enabled by @TheVeganSociety's explicit refusal to express support for the wrongly accused.
/n And by @TheVeganSociety's continued protection of those making malicious complaints who have familial, personal and professional relationships to current trustees: their identities are withheld, they remain members, and they continue to profit from business relationships.
/n Instead, @TheVeganSociety contributes to such abuse, with those who wanted to see such complaints upheld enforcing divisions on Council, then making a snide, victim-blaming statement that gaslights the experiences of all Black trustees once we'd all been bullied off Council.
/n But more on that in yesterday's thread about @TheVeganSociety...
/n And more on the reasons that half of @TheVeganSociety's trustees resigned over the last several days in our resignation letters... vegan4themany.com/who
/n I try not to do regrets. Everything I've done has been based on the information available at the time. So I don't regret spending three years trying to make @TheVeganSociety more inclusive. Had I not, I wouldn't have known what was possible.
/n (Although, I'm going to try to forget effectively also donating around £90k of professional services to @TheVeganSociety in a previous role, while they paid non-vegan consultants four times as much!)
/n However, I am disappointed that "the old guard" has proved so resistant to change, particularly change that would benefit vegans and @TheVeganSociety. As I wrote in my candidate statement for 2021, which saw me secure a mandate for a second term...
/n "While many vegans may be vegan 'for the animals', the vegan movement (of which @TheVeganSociety is one element) is made up of humans. And..."
/n "to maximise the good we can do for nonhuman animals (and any other factors driving our veganism – such as the environment) we need to maximise the growth of veganism by creating a movement that welcomes those of any race, culture, gender, sexuality, class, ability, age..."
