Devashayani Ekādaśī & Cāturmāsa - a thread..
**************************************************
(1) As the Devashayani Ekādaśī continues today, the fast can be broken between 6:08 AM to 8:40 AM tomorrow in what is called the Pārana Kāla...
(2) This Ashadha Shukla Paksha Ekādaśī is also significant because on completion of this Ekādaśī, Vishnu goes to sleep on this day and wakes up after four months on Prabodhini Ekādaśī.
(3) This year the Prabodhini Ekādaśī falls on November 16, 2021 - this is the चातुर्मास, Cāturmāsa - 4 months suited for sādhana. Typically, it is a period when vratas are taken up.
(4) When the Surās (Devas) sleep the Asurās are active and the vrata is taken up to protect oneself from "evil-influences"
वार्षिकांश्चतुरो मासान् वाहयेत् केनचिन्नरः ।
व्रतेन न चेदाप्नोति किल्मिषं वत्सरोद्भवम् ।।
(5) As Nārāyaṇa nourishes and sustains the body of all beings as annam (food) and Prāṇa, some sort of food restrictions are enjoined during these four months including not eating outside food, restricting food intake, carefully choosing what to eat and what to avoid and so on..
(6) People also take up one of these: parna-bhojana (eating on a leaf), eka-bhojana (eating only one meal), ayachit-bhojana (eating only what is provided), ekavadhi-bhojana (eating only one helping of food) and so on...
(7) For the four months after I break the Devashayani Ekādaśī fast tomorrow morning, I have decided to stick to one meal a day.
(8) It is also interesting to note that the Prabodhini Ekādaśī is one of the toughest fasts this year, next only to the Nirjala fast.
(9) The Ekādaśī tithi begins at 05:48 AM on Nov 14, 2021 and ends at 06:39 AM on Nov 15, 2021 but the Pārana Kāla (when the fast can be broken) occurs on Nov 15, 2021 06:22 AM to 08:01 AM - that is a solid 49 hours of fasting....

#PASHUBALI THE KANCHI PARMACHARYA'S VIEW - Thread...
*************************************************
(1) This is from an English translation of the Pramacharya's Deivathin Kural (The voice of God). Someone like him who would not hurt even an ant, has this to say on Pashu Bali
(2) For all those asking for its ban, would do well to read this... A yaga or sacrifice takes shape with the chanting of the mantras, the invoking of the deity and the offering of havis (oblation). The mantras are chanted (orally) and the deity is meditated upon (mentally).
(3) The most important material required for homa is the havis offered in the sacrificial fire-- in this "work" the body is involved. So, altogether, in a sacrificial offering mind, speech and body (mano-vak-kaya) are brought together.

(1) How should one observe Ekādaśī (एकादशी)?

Ekādaśī (एकादशी), which means 11 is not just a fast for 24 hours or for that matter fasting from food for 24 hours. In fact it is usually much more than 24 hours on almost all Ekādaśī.
(2) The 11 in Ekādaśī is a reference to the 5 Jñānendriyas and the 5 karmendriyas which make up 10 plus the Manas (the mind) that adds up to 11 – the fasting is for all of these – five sense organs and their outward tendencies need to be pulled back in.
(3) The five organs of action and their constant activity needs to be reined-in and finally the mind needs to be emptied out completely – turned inside out as it were and then given just one thought to contemplate on – the nāma of Viṣṇu This is what it means to do upavāsa

Isn't this is in UP? This is an image that will haunt us.
In the quest to be seen as progressive every single cultural marker of Hindus is being destroyed by the very people who have ridden to power on the back of Hindu votes (2)
The image of that corpulent tub of lard holding on to the neck of that girl shall remain etched as a marker of our subjugation at the hands of the very people who have used us and now abuse us (3)

This thread...The Islamists have always been better at propaganda & pushing their agenda. Hinduphobia does not have the kind of resonance that Islamophobia has because the Islamists have worked hard at pushing that narrative.
Most people (at least those who matter when it comes to setting the narrative) will make a distinction between Islam and terrorism - it is always - "Islam is a peaceful religion but terrorism is a result of a few misguided people who have misinterpreted the holy book
The reality however is very different - Islamic fundamentalism is a product of the fundamentals of the religion itself but that shall never be said - not by anyone - have often wondered if it is fear or favor or a combination of both

1. I am sick and tired of the hypocrisy of the BJP/Sangh Parivar's double-speak on temples in general and Sabarimala in particular. They were fully behind the attempt to break tradition and made a U-turn when they saw the Hindu backlash. Short thread documenting their hypocrisy
2. Here is RSS' Bhaiyyaji Joshi saying clearly that he and the Sangh support the entry of women
3. An old report from the Indian Express: "No reason to ban women from Sabarimala: RSS"
