🧵 #NoorMukaddam was violently murdered as a crowd of friends, servants and Zahid’s family were just standing around outside.According to allegedly leaked audio of the Therapy Works team, all Zakir Jaffer had to say light-heartedly was “I think he’s soliciting a girl inside.” —1
Remember, she actually managed to ESCAPE that room. She jumped off and was almost at the gate. That is the point when you’ve made it, you think now you’ll be rescued. And yet no one came to help till she was dragged back inside by the psychopath. —2 #NoorMukaddam
If the Therapy Works team came hours later & already found a crowd outside, which must have taken time to gather—even if they could never imagine this gruesome murder, they knew a woman was being subjected to violent abuse and not one called the police. —3 #NoorMukaddam
That is both a glaring indictment and a crystal clear reflection of who we are as a society from top to bottom.
I have reported on it for years; horrible, unforgettable violence against women in my country every other day. Their names are carved into my soul. -4 #NoorMukaddam
We didn’t see this noise because those girls were frm another socioeconomic group,& a certain elite mindset has always thought “that happens there all the time”. I could say now they know better, but from all the victim shaming I’ve seen,I know that’s not true. -5 #NoorMukaddam
This picture of Noor is around on social media. She seems to be at the Aurat March or perhaps a protest for another murdered or violated woman. It could be the last such protest she was probably at before being brutally murdered.
Because all of this is not yet ironic enough.-6
But go ahead, say “mera jism meri marzi”(my body my choice) has no place in Pakistan.
Does Pakistan only have a place for separating women’s heads from their bodies?
If you are a woman living in Pakistan, it’s a roll of the dice that’s kept you safe so far. I have lived it. -7

#ThisMatters: How do you save an elephant? You need several animal rights organizations, a court order...and CHER. The BBC’s @SecKermani has the story of what happened when the world’s loneliest elephant, met a world famous pop star. @cher@ftwglobal
Kaavan the elephant ended up in Pakistan on the whims of a little girl whose dad was a military dictator, languished for 35 years, lost his best friend Saheli, 8 years ago, and was very lonely and sad. And then he made an unexpected ally. Cher.
.@cher first learned about Kaavan in 2016. She and her animal welfare organization @ftwglobal along with @fourpawsint have been trying for years to win his freedom from terrible conditions at the Islamabad zoo. Their fight for other animals there is not over.
