It's time to up your keyboard game.

Some of these tricks are ones you might know, but it can't hurt to add a few more to your arsenal. Master these and you can spend less time copy and pasting and more time planning out your next vacation: (THREAD) 1/9

wired.com/story/do-every…
The Windows Key: If you need to launch a new app just press the Windows key—or Command+Space on a Mac—and start typing the name of the app in question. When its icon appears, just press Enter. 2/9
Ctrl+F: Ever needed to search for a specific phrase in a 5,000-word article? It's hell. But press Ctrl+F and you'll get a search bar that helps you find any word or phrase on a page. (Apple Tip: Use the Command key instead of Control) 3/9
Ctrl+L: In a browser, pressing Ctrl+L will automatically jump your cursor to the address bar, ready for you to type in a new search or web address. You might use this one more often than you'd think. 4/9
Ctrl+S: This combo will immediately save the document you're working on. Do this often, you’ll thank yourself when your computer crashes/loses power/your cat accidentally closes Microsoft Word. 5/9
Ctrl+T and Ctrl+Shift+T: Instead of clicking that tiny New Tab button in your browser, press Ctrl+T to instantly open a new one. (Bonus: if you accidentally close a tab and want to bring it back, press Ctrl+Shift+T.) 6/9
Ctrl+Shift+V: You probably know you can press Ctrl+V to paste, but that often brings a lot of weird formatting with it. Many apps let you use Ctrl+Shift+V to paste a block of text without all the garbage. 7/9
Ctrl+Arrow Keys: You can fly around a document without ever touching your mouse with this trick. (Bonus: if you hold Shift while moving the arrow keys, you'll select that text instead of just moving the cursor.) 8/9
If those aren't enough, there are plenty of ways to create your own shortcuts to speed up your day. What are some of your favorites? See more tricks and hacks here: wired.com/story/do-every… 9/9

With the help of the two brave robots InSight and Perseverance, scientists have mapped the inner layers of a planet other than Earth for the first time ever: wired.trib.al/SXO7eqp 1/4
They discovered that Mars’ crust is not as thick as it was once believed to be, and that it’s likely made of two or three layers. And while they can’t actually see the planetary center, the team was able to deduce the core is around 1,550 km from the surface. 2/4
“It's built from similar building blocks as our own planet, but Mars looks very different,” says University of Cambridge global seismologist Sanne Cottaar. 3/4

When you sign up for a Google account, you get 15 GB of free storage, split across three main products—Gmail, Google Drive, & Google Photos, but once you run out of space, you’ll have to pay to play.

Here’s how to avoid the upcharge for more storage: wired.trib.al/cMPUwA6 1/
If you've had your Gmail account for years, emails tend to add up. Clear out older emails by typing in "older_than:1y" into the search box at the top of Gmail to look for messages older than a year. You can change the number of years, or switch to months if you want. 2/ Image
Once your selected emails appear, click the selection box above the list on the left to select all of them, then click the Select all conversations that match this search option. Simply click the Delete button to erase. 3/
