I don't ever OBJECT to people taking a mental health day. But, all tf I'm saying is: if Giannis or Luka or Big Mike Jordan walked off the court during a Finals game 7 talmbout "Sometimes you just don't feel it. Sometimes, you CAN'T feel it," he miiiight not be praised as a hero.
**That's not a direct Biles quote, btw, for the Internet sleuths - more of a compendium from this case, the Osaka situation, and several others.**
(3) It's worth noting that I'm not arguing about whether she SHOULD have withdrawn - now from all events. That's a totally personal choice.

The question is whether this is HEROIC: it seems to have received more positive press than anything else during this Olympics.
(4) That's not an exaggeration, btw - although it comes from a short search. This is a major NYT piece on the situation: nytimes.com/2021/07/28/spo….

Note the header. Should we celebrate sport moving away from "stoicism" and toward "vulnerability" - thoughts?

An interesting phenomenon today is that there exists a whole genre of plain truths which everyone - across all races, etc - would agree to in a barbershop, on a basketball court, or on a golf course...but which almost cannot be mentioned in "polite" discourse.
(2) I'll name one for every 50 likes.
(3) While police brutality is Very Bad, something like the 90% majority of people shot by cops are violent repeat felons, usually struggling with the officer.

I am, as promised, RT-ing people's favorite pieces of my writing. This ALREADY CLASSIC article, suggested by @findingvinay, takes a look at what I like about whites (modern civilization), Blacks (humanity, tho), Asians, and everyone else historically...spiked-online.com/2021/07/01/wes…
(2) Another one, suggested by my Cut the Bull partner @CDouglasLove3, and one of my favorite pieces. I take an empirical look at whether "mediocre white men" actually ARE held to a lower standard than woke women of color...theamericanconservative.com/articles/a-lon…
(3) This piece, preferred by @Jivvvvvvvvv (one of the more entertaining debaters on the page in recent days) makes the point that pulling back police stops and giving cops less money increases crime.

Thoughts on my radical thesis? quillette.com/2021/01/27/did…

A quick note on The Science.

The Janester was interested enough in the origins of the term "demisexual" to research yesterday. As far as anyone can tell, it was coined by a teen in a role-playing forum, describing themself or a fictional character as neither "slutty" nor chaste.
(2) Pressure from online communities resulted in the adoption of the term by WebMD, etc. Now, there are multiple citable papers/chapters discussing the rise of the term, and debating what it means + whether this is a real identity (i.e. "Demisexuality as a Contested Sexuality").
(3) The majority of Woke Science is of this kind. Robin D'Angelo makes a statement in a popular book. This author/idea are then cited in the qualitative Conclusions section of a Sociology paper.

"Scientific evidence" of "white fragility" now exists. Why do you hate science?

As a methods prof, a lot of the social science done or cited - especially by journalists - to "prove" contemporary Wokish talking points seems almost intentionally badly done.
(2) An example would be the claim single parents do as well as married couples at raising kids, IF YOU ADJUST FOR INCOME. Maybe. But, 2 people make more $$$ than 1, and men out-earn women. You'd have to make ~220% what the mean single mom does to be as stable as the mean couple.
(3) On a different note, 3+ complex "Bayesian" analyses of police shootings look at B:W risks of getting shot by cops, and find ratios of 2-3:1. However, none adjust for the B:W difference in victim-reported crime rate, which is 2.4:1, and totally explains the gap.

(2) My thoughts...

The most basic thing we can do to help the poor is provide them the services we do everyone else. The hood is UNDER, not over-policed, and should have officers to match and BREAK the crime rate. Poor kids need schools with smart teachers, or vouchers to leave.
(3) I also don't mind - although a few hurrrd-right wing haters nationally do - state services targeted specifically at POOR (as vs, say, "bisexual bi-POC") people. Enterprise zones, CLASS-based affirmative action, IQ-boosting programs like ABCdarian, etc. all can do good work.

There were four major college-campus hate crime hoaxes basically last week.
"Prove it!!!"

Ok. While, more specifically, it's the TRIAL here that's happening now, the dorm fire - like, probably, most of the other hate incidents at - Vitterboro U was a hoax. thecollegefix.com/black-student-…
(3) The "noose" reported at Central Connecticut State U on Memorial Day, and discussed for days, turned out to be a crane cable...literally ON a construction site. fox61.com/article/news/l…
