According to Reiser and Laszlo a new technospiritual religion needed to be developed to bring humanity together. Eastern religion and art would be combined with Western science and technology.

One tool in this work was the
Budapest Club (a sister club of the Club of Rome) which was formed in 1993 from a conversation Laszlo had with the President of the Club of Rome Aurelio Peccei, which was created with the aim the aim of changing the direction of humanity

– from decay, polarization and disaster to a transformation of our values and priorities towards humanism, ethics and global sustainability.

This club brings together a host of prominent cultural personalities and statesmen (including Mikhail Gorbachev, Jane Goodall, Arthur C Clarke and the Dalai Lama).

The techno-spiitual agenda is perhaps most evident in Laszlos and the Foundation for the Law of Times project Noosphere Forum. In this, humans are fully integrated into a global panopticon and connected to the world brain/AI through a neurolink.

A matrix in which man accesses a huge data capacity while being manipulated into desirable behaviors from above

As exaggerated and technologically optimistic as this may sound,South African entrepreneur, inventor and billionaire Elon Musk announced in April 2017 that he would start developing the Neuralink business project with the ambition to integrate humans with artificial intelligence

Musk, like the Global Challenges Foundation, has warned of the consequences of an AI that becomes independent and runs amok, arguing that if we humans become part of the technological system/AI, it can be controlled.

If we can somehow merge with our electronic creations in a larger scale endosymbiosis, it may provide a better next step in the evolution of humanity and Gaia. (James Lovelock)

In 2010, The Great Transition Initiative started the project The Widening Circle (TWC) – Campaign for Advancing a Global Citizens Movement, where ideas about the new planetary civilization would be disseminated.

TWC would engage myriad individuals and organizations in articulating a shared planetary consciousness and coordinating actions to elicit public sympathy and influence decision-making

Through actors such as the Ervin Laszlos Club of Budapest, the Kosmos Journal and earth charter (whose work was coordinated by Steven Rockefeller in the 1990s), this spread to both the UN-affiliated New Age movement and the environmental movement.

It also included Earth Charter's chairman Mikhael Gorbachev, who a few years earlier launched the Creating a New Civilization initiative with the Japanese Goi Peace Foundation, the Club of Rome and the Club of Budapest.

Former Communist leader Gorbachev, member of both the Club of Budapest and the Club of Rome said that:

“We need effective global systems in an interdependent world,where everything is globalized including finance, resources and trade. W/o vision and political will to build a new world order, nothing will change, and w/o a positive push from civil society, politics will not change”

Ervin Laszlo wrote in
The Widening Circle:

“The global transformation will require the awakening of a new social actor: a vast movement of global citizens expressing a supranational identity and building new institutions for a planetary age.”

Ervin Laszlo's 2012 book Worldshift, foreword by Gorbachev, describes his ideal of a world system in which nation states should be part of federations such as the EU, the African Union, the North American Union

and where the United People's Organization (UPO) will govern a world army and decide on global issues related to peace, security, environmental protection, information/communication and finance.

UPO will be made up politically of representatives from the regional federations, but it also includes thousands of NGOs and business organizations.

There is also the goal of a World Environment Organization that can coordinate environmental programmes in the regional federations.

However, like the EU, everything should be based on the principle of subsidiarity. At the lowest level, direct democracy shall be applied (digitally if the distances are too long).

Regional currencies have replaced the national currencies and a new global currency called Gaia is used for transnational trade (Laszlo stated in his vision for the future that this would be completed by 2020).

Laszlo, in his latest book Global Shift NOW, sees the pandemic as a "valuable gift."

“This is a great experimement in creating the next step in human evolution. So Global Shift NOW is a precious opportunity. It is in a way a blessing in disguise that we have such a crisis.”

Compare that with the words of World Economic Forum President Klaus Schwab as he presented The Great Reset:

The COVID-19 crisis is affecting every facet of people's lives in every corner of the world. But tragedy need not be its only legacy.

On the contrary, the pandemic represents a rare but narrow window of opportunity to reflect, reimagine, and reset our world to create a healthier, more equitable, and more prosperous future.

Schwab's latest book Stakeholder Capitalism also presents a world system that bears great similarities to both Laszlo's and Raskin's visions.

Schwab also mentions the principle of subsidiarity – that all decisions should be taken at the most local level possible – with reference to the EU.

How well has this principle then worked in the EU with leadership anchored in the World Economic Forum and the Trilateral Commission?

Due to the pandemic, we are currently in the scenario that Raskin describes as Barbarization in his 2002 book Great Transitions. A world in a state of crisis in which authoritarianism has, to varying degrees, deprived us of fundamental freedoms

“The dark belief underlying the Breakdown variant is that the world faces an unprecedented calamity in which unbridled population and economic growth leads to ecological collapse, rampaging conflict and institutional disintegration.”

According to the scenario, environmental crises, food shortages and diseases lead to a major health crisis! This causes the current regime to creak at the seams.

Criminal syndicates and terrorism are flourishing, violence is escalating, polarisation between social groups is increasing, while environmental crises and diseases are affecting the world population

It is very similar to what has happened in the post-9/11 world, with the wars in the Middle East, repeated terrorist acts, the great financial crisis of 2008 and the refugee crisis in 2015.

Through these events, a relatively modest trigger was assumed to be enough to plunge the world into total chaos. Something that could also be seen as a consequence of the UN's sustainability goals not being taken seriously enough

According to Raskin writing in 2006, a very severe pandemic could be a possible trigger for this mega-crisis.

“Another path to general crisis might be initiated by an unprecedented pandemic; perhaps via an extremely contagious disease vector that emerges from disrupted ecosystems

and is carried to the four corners of the Earth by a highly mobile affluent population and by waves of impoverished refugees fleeing the spreading chaos.“

In the years before the mega-crisis, in the 2010s, Raskin predicted the emergence of a global civil rights movement, known in Great Transition as Yin-Yang, that would bring together young people demanding global change.

The parallel with the global climate marches and Greta Thunberg's climate strikes demanding to world leaders to reform the system is obvious.

Although it was derisively referred to as the Children's Crusade at the time, the unified youth movement was a critical partner in the coalition for a new global deal that led to the Global Reform process

Yin is responsible for the new-look section of the movement, with its roots in the hippie movement and Timothy Leary'sdrug romance, while Yang stands for the activist and political part with its roots in civil rights and environmental engagement.

The RBF (Rockefeller Brothers Fund) has supported "allied voices for climate action" that includes businesses, investors, evangelicals, farmers, sportsmen, labor, military leaders, national security hawks, veterans, youth, and governors and mayors.

In Raskins Fortress World, however, their commitment is not enough to create the change required before the world plunges into chaos.

At the height of the mega-crisis, an alliance, the Alliance for Global Salvation, with international military, corporate and political organizations, is assembled to bring order to the chaos.

This certainly sounds like the dictatorship proposed by actors such as the Clubof Rome , James Lovelock and Torbjörn Tännsjö in order to create a sustainable society by authoritarian means.

Raskin wrote a sequel to The Great Transition, Journey to Earthland: The Great Transition to Planetary Civilization in 2016, in which he refers to the hardline militant alliance as the New Earth Order (NEO).

With an upgraded United Nations as a platform, raskin says, a global emergency is declared. Then a campaign begins in which authoritarian measures and military force are used to end the unrest.

This gives rise to a dualist system – Planetary Apartheid. The rich live in protected and privileged areas (Fortress), while the poor majority living in the police state outside the fort are denied fundamental freedoms.

The authorities unified national militaries of the willing into a "peace brigade" to enforce their cynical "3S" program: Stability, Security, and Sustainability.

Using the revamped UN as a coordinating platform and legal cover, the New Earth Order (NEO) forces swept through hot spots, launching sporadic shock and awe attacks.

The authorities use high-tech surveillance and old-fashioned brutality to control social unrest and migration, and to protect valued environmental resources.

It is clear that the scenarios from the Great Transition Initiative overlap with the Rockefeller Foundation's 2010 Scenarios for the Future of Technology and International Development report. In particular, this scenario applies to lock step:

A world of tighter top-down government control and more authoritarian leadership, with limited innovation and growing citizen pushback.

As in the old Soviet state propaganda, sustainable paradise is to emerge after the authoritarian era. According to the ideal, it is a New Sustainability Paradigm that should appear when the reform work is complete.

In "Clever Together" scenario from the Rockefeller Foundation's Scenarios for the Future of Technology and International Development

“Nation-states lost some of their power and importance as global architecture strengthened and regional governance structures emerged.

International oversight entities like the UN took on new levels of authority, as did regional systems like the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

In this society, you are free to run your affairs as long as they fall within the framework of what the world union has defined as right and proper.

Back to Raskin (The Great Transition) :

“Social and environmental goals at each scale define the “boundary conditions” for those nested within it. Subject to these constraints, the freedom to fashion local solutions is considerable—but conditional.“

If disorder and violence arise, the "peace forces" are called in. The consumer society has been abandoned in favour of a balanced circular society in which everything is kept within planetary boundaries.

An Eco-utopia where human activities are controlled and where the energy system is based on renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass and water.

Population stabilization, low-meat diets and compact settlements reduce the human footprint, sparing land for nature. Global warming is abating as greenhouse gas emissions return to pre-industrial levels.

Ecosystems are restored and endangered species are returning, though scars remain as reminders of past heedlessness.

The Great Transition Initiative is not just focused on trying to predict the future. They are engineering the desired future. This is now made possible by the chaos and unrest caused by the pandemic

As Mimi Stokes (2021), A Planetary Actor Awakens, GTI Forum states:

The pandemic is awakening the interdependent planetary consciousness that thousands have been trying to cultivate for decades.”
