*Debunking reservation myths*

UC: I support reservation, but on economic basis

Me: Reservation is not & never was a poverty alleviation scheme

UC: But what about rich Dalits?

Me: Again, reservation is not made to solve poverty. It is to ensure representation of lower castes

UC: But rich Dalits are stealing the seats of poor Dalits!

Me: Dalits & Adivasis are 25% of the Indian population, we get 22.5% reservation. Therefore no one's stealing anyone's seat. All of us are meant to get reservation & all of us will. If you're so worried give up your seat

UC: Oh look how much you hate merit. I have achieved everything through hard work

Me: What you have achieved is a direct result of your caste privilege & generational wealth. Hard work is also done by Dalits working as labourers, farmers, workers, etc who have built this country

UC: You haven't built this country! Look at all the great Indians in history, all upper-caste

Me: That's because Dalits & Adivasis were not allowed to get education & do proper jobs for 3,000 years. You have won the race throughout history because we weren't allowed to compete

UC: Why you people keep crying about history? Live in the present! Casteism doesn't exist anymore.

Me: Casteism does still exist. Why are only Dalits climbing into gutters to clean your shit? Why are only Dalits doing lower caste occupations in 2021? It's because you force them

UC: All that only happens in villages. There is no caste in cities now

Me: Last year, a mutual friend who's a Dalit from my locality was killed by UCs. His crime was dating an UC girl. They hit him with a tempo, beat him to death & spit on him as they abused him with caste slurs

UC: This is an isolated incident. Crimes don't happen against Dalits anymore

Me: In 2019, 46,000 crimes took place against Dalits. 10 Dalit women are raped everyday. Every 15 minutes a crime happens against a Dalit. Between 2006-16, over 500,000 crimes happened against SC/STs

UC: Crimes happen everywhere. Name a country where crimes don't happen

Me: Yes crimes happen around the world but only in India will you see Dalits getting killed for riding a horse, growing a moustache, watching a dance, wearing shoes, dating an UC or eating in front of an UC

UC: What about people who are getting killed because of Dalit doctors? You people have low cutoff which leads to our deaths

Me: Yes we have low cutoff in entrance exam, but we still have to study for 4 years, pass all college exams & intern just like you before becoming a doctor

UC: If you are so smart then end reservation. I hate this quota system which kills my merit

Me: But you have no problem with management quota, army quota, Kashmir Pandit quota, in-house quota, NRI quota, sports quota, etc. You only have problem with lower castes getting educated

UC: Some quotas are nice. I like EWS quota which is only for the poor & deserved

Me: Actually EWS is only for UCs. Poor SC/ST/OBC are banned from EWS

UC: So what? We have merit. We don't need lower cutoff

Me: Actually cutoff for EWS is even lower than SC/ST/OBC in many cases

UC: Why don't we deserve reservation? You people get 60% reservation. What more do you want?

Me: We only get 11% reservation in education & 1% reservation in jobs. Most colleges & jobs are private, where there is no reservation. We are more than 75% of the Indian population

UC: I don't even want 1% reservation. What about poor UCs?

Me: Poor UCs are poor because rich UCs hoard disproportionate amount of wealth. Top 10% UC who are >2% of the population own 60% of the country's wealth. UCs earn 45% than national average, SC/STs earn 21% & 34% less

UC: Reservation still bad. We are losing our best minds to USA because of reservation. India is for the reserved, America is for the deserved

Me: You know America also has reservation in education & jobs for minorities right? In fact 25% of all countries have affirmative action

UC: But reservation is killing this country. We are going backwards because of you. You are looting this country

Me: How are we looting this country? We're just getting educated. Find out the caste of all the millionaires who have done scams & you'll realise who is looting India

UC: Reservation was needed in the beginning but why do you want it 70 years after Independence?

Me: We never wanted reservation. We wanted separate electorates. But Gandhi threatened to off himself when we got separate electorates. Remove reservation & give separate electorates

UC: Did you know I scored 102.9 % but still didn't get admission? A Dalit scored -39% & stole my seat

Me: But you were never competing with a Dalit. You were competing with fellow UCs. If you ask the govt for more colleges all of us can get educated without fighting one another

UC: Why are you wearing Zara t-shirt? You are rich Dalit. Poor UCs are forced to wear H&M. You are not oppressed

Me: My Zara t-shirt won't protect me when I am being lynched for my caste. Neither will my BMW, Audi, iPhone or whatever imaginary expensive product you think I own

UC: But I personally know so many Dalits with iPhones, Ferraris, mansions, etc. How are they oppressed & why do they get reservation?

Me: I already explained reservation is about representation & not economic upliftment. A rich Dalit is still a Dalit who suffers from casteism

UC: Reservation is holding India back. If we didn't have reservation we would've been a superpower

Me: We already don't have reservation in Bollywood, sports, academia, art, judiciary, etc. All these fields only have UCs. Has India become a superpower in any of these fields? No

UC: Whatever, Ambedkar only wanted reservation for 10 years

Me: I give up.

Just to clarify, this is sarcasm. Ambedkar never wanted reservation to end after 10 years in education and jobs
