Vintage Squad politics: Lots of performative theatrical dissidence, sometimes well-motivated. But ultimately, it's always boxed in by a refusal to wield real power if doing so means defying Pelosi or subverting the Dem Party. It keeps pseudo-edgy leftists loyal to the Party.
That's why the Squad's behavior on Pelosi's bill to increase Capitol Police funding is vital. All 6 of them agreed to join the GOP and vote NO, but when they realized that would sink the bill, AOC, Tlaib & Bowman voted "present" so it passed by 1 vote:

greenwald.substack.com/p/the-squad-en…
Look at what the Squad did there. All 6 members were going to defy Pelosi and vote NO on more spending for Capitol Police -- but only when they thought it would pass without them. Once they realized that would sink Pelosi's bill, they backed away. The dissent is only for theater.
That's why I keep returning to this episode:

1) The Squad will not use its power to impede Pelosi even when she's acting against their claimed beliefs;

2) AOC, Bowman & Tlaib spent a year chanting DEFUND THE POLICE but then ensured more funding for the Police that protect them.

White liberals constantly ignore and erase millions and millions of Black and Hispanic people -- which this chart shows will not get the vaccine -- along with working-class people, whenever their thoughts negate liberal pieties. Look how @espiers pretends they don't exist:
Her own chart shows that 1 out of every 4 black people, and 1 out of every 4 Hispanics, are saying they will never get the vaccine or are highly likely not to, but @espiers thinks she has the right to pretend they don't exist so she can persist with her stunted partisan scripts.
Liberal pundits see people of color and LGBTs as their personal little toys to wind up and put on a stage to perform when it suits them, and bury them and pretend they don't exist when making them invisible serves their interests. You can see that mentality vividly every day.

I again have to ask: if the primary goal now is to persuade vaccine skeptics that the vaccine works and they should take it for the benefit of returning to normal life, what message do dreary images like this -- from leading officials who are fully vaccinated -- send to them??
Liberals now have a strong need to malign those who are vaccine hesitant as stupid, reckless troglodytes. They're only comfortable doing that if the unvaccinated are mostly Trump supporters. But the demographics of vaccine resisters are much more complex, so they just lie.
I got the vaccine and encourage anyone who asks my advice to do so, though I think it should be everyone's choice. Precisely because I believe in the vaccine's efficacy, I'm amazed the messaging of govt officials is becoming more, not less, coercive, didactic and alarmist.

The abusive treatment of 1/6 defendants -- imprisoned before trial in solitary -- is largely ignored due to fear of being accused of sympathizing with them if you object:

Just as neocons accused those who objected to the abuses of the 1st War on Terror of sympathy for Al Qaeda.
The ACLU -- when asked by @KerryPicket of the @dcexaminer -- agreed that the pre-trial conditions of imprisonment for the January 6 defendants were abusive and unjust:

Meanwhile, numerous GOP members of the House and Senate -- elected to represent Americans and govern the US -- have been obsessing on "fixing" Cuba while ignoring domestic abuses, leading to right-wing satire like this:

Really worth reading this NYT op-ed about COVID, vaccines and masks from @aaronecarroll. As he points out, it was always known there'd be breakthrough infections with the vaccines. The goal was to render it less harmful. That's working. Nothing changed.

There are some who insist nobody question the decrees of Govt agencies (though that only applies when they hear what they want: they maligned CDC's May lifting of its no-mask policy).

But given how quickly and and radically these messages shift, it's rational to question them.
When even authority-revering CNN is starting to notice and say that the CDC's manic shifts in guidance don't seem to make sense and should be questioned -- or at least aren't being communicated clearly -- you know there's a problem:

A major reason faith and trust was lost in the COVID pronouncements of media and public health experts was how brazenly they politicized their directives.

Quibble with some of the examples in this great thread but the message was clear: protests were allowed only if liberal.
For a full year, liberals vilified anyone who questioned CDC guidance or governors who deviated in any way.

Then, when CDC told vaccinated people they need not wear masks, they vilified those *followed the CDC guidelines.* It was never about Science:

(And, to be clear, I've never been anti-mask. I've always worn masks outside the house and still do because that's the law in Brazil, where vaccines still aren't available to all adults. But CDC guidance is important because it fosters a return to normal life: vital for health).

Liberals need 1/6 to be some momentous event because it gives them purpose and vindication.

Journalists need it because, for many, it was the most exciting and scary thing they ever did.

The security state loves it because it's what justifies their power and budget.
Acting as if 1/6 was some sort of serious "insurrection" is just pitiful.

None of the defendants has been charged with sedition, fomenting insurrection, attempted murder or anything like that. Because it wasn't that. It was a protest that turned into a 3-hour riot.
2 of the 4 people who died on 1/6 were Trump supporters who dropped dead of heart attacks.

Another was a Trump supporter who died of a speed overdose.

The 4th was an unarmed Trump supporter shot point blank in the neck and killed by a still-unknown armed agent of the state.
