Also now that I’m back, I have some questions. When did rich folks stop taking showers and bathing their children daily?? What is this madness about being stinky as a family ON PURPOSE????
You couldn’t leave my mother’s house or come in after playing outside or being at school without showering. And don’t even TRY to sit on her couch in your school clothes. Daily bathing is pretty freaking basic, right? Babies smell like warm batter and love but children get STANK!
And as @jemelehill pointed out, segregation included barring Black folks from swimming in pools or at public beaches on the premise that we were dirty by definition. (More of that race stuff wingers are burying). So when did it become rich kitsch to brag about family filthiness?
