On #NationalHandloomDay doing a thread of handlooms in my #gettymuseumchallenge painting recreations .... Starting with the home state
1. Kerala Kasavu( Balaramapuram) Saree/Mundum neriyathum ImageImage
And four more painting recreations featuring that handloom weave #NationalHandloomDay ImageImageImageImage
Moving to "Bharat ka Dil', Chanderi Handloom weave from MP #NationalHandloomDay ImageImage
Next from the home state of one of the artist featured in the above recreations, Maharashtra, Puneri Handloom cotton sarees, the famous 'Poona saree' , easy breezy and so comfortable to don😊 #NationalHandloomDay Image
From the same state , the City of Aurangabad, a well travelled weave- 'Himroo' #NationalHandloomDay ImageImage
Going southwards .....I have never been able to fathom why weavers from a state known for it's hot humid weather devised this thick silk weave... Of course the sarees are exquisite! #Kanjivaram #NationalHandloomDay Image
From the neighboring state Karnataka, mysore handloom silk #NationalHandloomDay ImageImage
Moving to Andhra Pradesh..... Venkatagiri Saree( worn as a hip scarf in this recreation, testimony to the fineness of the weave!) #NationalHandloomDay Image
Now to the northeast ,my current place of residence.... from the Sualkuchi handloom clusters, the famous Assam Silk saree ..... second one is a 'Sador' from a 'Mekhela sador' set #NationalHandloomDay ImageImage
Had to pin up those typical 'miri gos' buttas for the Bawa recreation, here it is worn in the traditional fashion #NationalHandloomDay Image
Continuing with the NE ,No sarees in this one .... just a Naga Kuki stole.... #NationalHandloomDay Image
To the 'hespend's' home state next, Jamdani ...of course Bangladesh has claim to the famous Dhakai jamdani GI tag, but we have good weaving clusters in Burdwan W.B, The look of lace and the comfort of muslin in our sultry weather conditions ImageImageImageImage
Continuing with the Jamdani ( the last one features a Kashmiri Chinon saree too, a fabric and print not a handloom 'weave') ImageImageImageImage
One last set for Jamdani, then I will move on to the next state #NationalHandloomDay ImageImageImage
With the network playing hooky for a day here ,couldn't finish this thread yesterday...well moving on to Odisha a state with claim to some of the most intricate GI tagged weaves..Bomkai , The green one is silk and the grey one a cotton bomkai handloom saree #MyHandloomMyPride ImageImageImageImage
For a Jamini Roy recreation, a Sambhalpuri ikat handloom saree( with pasapalli border) #MyHandloomMyPride Image
From the East of the Desh to the west..... Rajasthan.... A Kota Doria handloom cotton saree with those characteristic small woven squares, to recreate a Haren Das wood cut print #MyHandloomMyPride Image
Along with Kanjeevaram IMO the most famous of the Indian handloom weaves, stuff of legends so to speak! from the state of UP- Benarasi ( The last one is a cotton Benarasi ) #MyHandloomMyPride ImageImageImage
Doing two weaves that has done some amount of travelling across regions much like me 😁, in this post..... A Tanchoi and a Narayanpet
#MyHandloomMyPride ImageImage
Concluding the thread that i started on #NationalHandloomsDay with the work horses of the lot, generic Sico and cotton handloom sarees #MyHandloomMyPride ImageImageImage

The before pic is from Holi exactly two years back... I had put on a lot of flab because of a meniscus injury...vicious cycle that, didn't know I could workout around that injury, hence gained that flab(pigging out in the jungle )which made it worse..after pic from a week back Image
What changed?.....There was this dancing event that was put up by the ladies of a station in Feb that year,I was also a part of it and that damn knee started bothering me again😑
Decided to do something about it....So on 6th March 2018 I started with Intermittent fasting and doing light bellydancing sessions at home that didn't tax the knee too much...about 2 months later wore some knee supports and took to the Badminton courts

The bird thread bought so much joy and sense of rediscovery....so starting a thread on one more gp of colourful evanescent winged creatures... 'hathon mein rang reh jaata he pankhon se jab chhodo toh'...1. Common Peacock(Papilio polyctor),from Rupa and sessa respectively
2. Indian TortoiseShell(Aglais caschmirensis)Rupa,Arunachal...pair of territorial pugnacious males in all probability....I have had a paper published on the range extension of this species along with a lycaenid species of butterfly here... threatenedtaxa.org/index.php/JoTT…
3. Common Map(Cyrestis thyodamas),Amlaghat,Uttaranchal....Its not common inspite of the common name😁.. and one look at it and you can guess at the origin of that name...does look like an old parchment map for buried treasure doesnt it?😁
