Kirk Cousins got absolutely destroyed by the sports media for multiple days for refusing to get the covid vaccine. Lamar Jackson refused to get the covid vaccine & has now tested positive twice. He came back to practice today and I’ve seen almost no blue checks rip him at all.
I think the NFL’s covid policy is nonsensical. And that every player should make his own health choice. But why did Kirk Cousins, who didn’t even test positive, get destroyed for multiple days over covid & Lamar Jackson gets essentially ignored?
It’s similar to the way the media is covering vaccinations. The lowest vaccine percentages in the country are black & Hispanic people by far. Yet the media consistently rips the unvaccinated as if they are all red state Trump voters. Do facts matter or not?
The reason Southern states have low vaccination percentages is because they have many Trump voters, who tend to be white, and also many Biden voters, who tend to be black. The percentage of black Biden voters who are unvacced is the highest in the country. Yet media ignores it.
The media, consistently, picks easy and convenient villains over factual analysis or evenhanded application of standards and precedents. Kirk Cousins and Lamar Jackson are a glaring current example in sports that reflects the larger issue with covid vaccination coverage at large.

Blockbuster story from Washington Post citing CDC data acknowledging covid vaccines offer limited protection against delta variant spread. Rate of virus transmissions have been found to be similar for vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Read it yourselves: washingtonpost.com/health/2021/07…
If pursuing the truth no matter where it leads you was truly the standard for journalism awards @AlexBerenson would get all of them. And he’s done it just by letting the data lead him instead of selling prevailing narratives of the powerful and covering his eyes.
Whatever limited faith the public had in the CDC has been crippled over the past 18 months. Much of the covid data has been public for months before the CDC reacts or acknowledges it. This is made worse by labeling legit analysis as misinformation on social media & censoring it.
Scottie Pippen STILL gets crushed for pulling himself out of a playoff game against the Knicks because a play wasn’t called for him. And the blue check brigade on here wants to tell me Simone Biles is a hero for quitting in the middle of a team event? This is crazy.
I mean, athletes can quit on their teams whenever they want. It’s their right. But it isn’t remotely heroic or praiseworthy. And anyone who has ever been on a team at any level would be furious if a teammate said the moment was too big and they refused to play in the biggest game
This is why most of us put our kids in athletics in the first place — to learn how to handle pressure, work as teammates, & succeed or fail in competition. These are traits that carry forward in life, long after sports are over. It’s why my kids are in sports now.
Tom Brady doesn’t go in for the Super Bowl for the second half because of the mental pressure he feels. LeBron James takes himself out of the NBA Finals game 7 because of the mental pressure he feels. What would the reaction be compared to Simone Biles? Debate, discuss.
Remember how much Jay Cutler got crushed for an NFC title game INJURY that left him on the sidelines. How much does make vs female factor in here? I think a ton.
In 1996 Kerri Strug landed a one foot vault to win the US gold. In 2020 Simone Biles pulled herself out of competition because of mental issues and her team won silver. Debate, discuss.
My general read: athletes, and all young people, spend way too much time on social media and it is often very bad for mental health. The more time you spend on social media, the more mentally unhealthy you often are. This is a larger societal problem reflected in athletics.
Instead of allowing coaches, teammates, your family and friends to primarily impact your mental health and state of well being, many now allow anonymous people on social media to define & pressure them. It’s toxic. I’m keeping my own kids off social media as long as I can.
I’d love for the NCAA doctors & “scientists” to explain how it’s safe for 24,000 fans of all ages — none of whom are being tested for covid — to attend games in close quarters but it’s not safe for 25 young & super healthy athletes to play a socially distanced sport outdoors.
Spoiler alert: it’s all bullshit cosmetic theater. There is zero reason for any sport to have any covid protocol at all.
On the vaccination front, what’s the point of players being vaccinated if they can still test positive and be forced to miss games? There’s no benefit. Again, the “science” makes no sense. It’s all bullshit.
