There is a small but perfectly formed, UK-wide Women’s GC Network across the country - inspired wholly by @shirleysascot.
It follows in the footsteps of her coordination of women attending a Glasgow rally on 20 July 2021 in support of Marion Millar, facing charges under the Communications Act.
That set the ball rolling.
In just over 2 weeks, over 60 groups, encompassing not far short of one thousand women, have been established. We are talking. We are meeting. We are planning. And we are growing - daily.
Aims
The public (media, social media, print, popular culture) discourse is currently positioning GC views as anti-trans rather than pro-women. We must turn this around, and if successful achieving the following is within reach:
To retain the hard-won rights of women
To prevent the introduction of self-identification in the Gender Recognition Act
To stop the medicalisation of children who are encouraged to believe they can to change sex.
To reinstate the words sex and woman into common language and law.
There are many different people and organisations involved in working to these aims: academics doing magnificent research, writing and publishing their findings; high profile individuals with a significant platform and reach across society; parliamentarians (Commons and Lords);
journalists fighting hard within their own sector to have their voices published; people with fabulous skills using them to dissect policies and publications; and most importantly ordinary people – usually women but not exclusively – who are subject/resort to legal action to
defend their rights, their reputation and their employment.
Women like me have watched this all happening and whilst supportive have struggled to see how they can help to make a difference, beyond a Twitter ‘like’ or ‘retweet’.
Well we’re here now!
We are women – wait till you here us roar!
