HOW TO MAKE SOME SIDE INCOME AS A CONSULTANT/CONTRACTOR NO MATTER YOUR INDUSTRY

Everyone needs to be able to generate some side cash

I don't care what industry you're in, you can pick up some contracts on the side. (I've made $100k+ in a yr doing this)

🧵

#1. Figure out what niche service you can provide other businesses need

RE agent - you know 5 zip codes well
Marketer - you can write emails well
HVAC tech - you can do work in half the time
CPA - you can cut 20% of expenses from a DR. office
Dentist - You grew your practice
3/

Point is --> what are you good at? And what do businesses need help with all the time.

All HVAC owners wish their techs worked faster... National PE firm wish they knew every zip code in America well, but don't
Every doctor sucks at finances (hence a CPA)
4/

Pinpoint something you do GREAT, and love doing already.

What is a part of your job you're better than others at?

Others WILL pay you for that help.

Ok, you have the niche
5/

#2. Locate businesses (NOT CONSUMERS) that could use your help.

Businesses are willing to pay more and have the budget. Plus, easier to reach the guy with the gold coins rather than picking through millions of consumers
6/

#3. Find their phone number or email. I like email for more white collar jobs (aka you're reaching out to doctors, execs etc.)

For HVAC owners, you'll probably need to call them.
7/

#4. To find an email... locate the company website, google "@companyname.com" email. See what format they use.

To find a phone number, find the owner's name, put it into Truepeoplesearch.com and try it.

Else, can go to Skipgenie.com and pay some pennies
8/

What do I say???

#5. Email:
Hey Jack,

Is there someone in your office I should chat with about some supplies and taxes you may be paying too much on?

I'm helping out some doctors in my neighborhood cut 20% in expenses.
9/

Key sentence...

"I'm also in talks with COMPETITOR 1, 2, 3" (competitors the doctor would know).

"Anyone you recommend I chat with?"

- Joe
CPA at XYZ Pencil Pusher
10/

On phone... use the same script :).

I bet you'll have a conversation going in 5 seconds.

Next key piece
11/

#6. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN OFFER READY TO GO

Never ho-hum over anything

"I can get you a list of the top 5 commerial prop on market in these 5 zip codes, including write-ups, pro-formas. You don't need me to help buy them, you're a big boy. But I charge $5k to do this."
12/

If you're a marketer ---> "I can write you 5 emails for cold traffic, 5 for warm traffic, $1,000 delivered in 7 days. If none are good, I'll write you 10 more for free."

HVAC ---> I'll work with one of your guys 1x per week and he'll be done 3 hrs faster. $3k to do it."
13/

Everyone won't take you up on it...

But I like email because you can have a VA find the emails and send them, then you simply respond and get on the phone with people interested.
14/

The world is changing...

You need to make more income besides whatever your career is

And I'm not talking an extra $500 in rents or dividends...I mean $5,000 chunks at a time.

(I just landed a 5k contract that'll take me 3 hours to complete) - will buy my wife that sofa
15/

You aren't trying to change your main job or spend less time with your family

You're simply having an offer you can turn on and off whenever you like

Sure, it's not "passive." But most things aren't

First, find your specialty

Retweet if you like. Share your niche below.

LEARNING HOW TO WRITE BETTER SALES COPY IN 5 MINUTES

My copy has directly sold tens of millions of dollars

But writing copy is a skill everyone should learn to persuade your clients, boss, spouse, the contractor trying to rip you off

Crash course

(unconventional)

👇
2/

First.

You have to love to write. You write daily. You'll be editing. Bosses and clients will look at a piece you spent 5 hours and in 2 minutes will put red lines through it.

Your manager will redline a presentation...

You'll feel like a failure
3/

But that's what you deal with when you get into the "creative" world. Everyone has an opinion

As Don Draper says in one of my favorite interactions talking about copywriting and its process,"People think monkeys can do this"

YOU CAN CHEW GUM, TAKE SELFIES AND OTHER "FREEDOMS" ENJOYED IN THE US YOU CAN'T IN OTHER COUNTRIES

Reading my local paper, there's an anon opinion column. Every week, there are comments of"the US is doomed" etc

Instead, we have many cool freedoms here

ENTERTAINMENT is made for Americans ---> The show "Friends" is still the 3rd most popular show in India and Pakistan despite going off air in 2004.

The show has been translated into over a dozen languages and still syndicated globally. How many Italian shows do you watch?

ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE - As expensive as it is, we have an urgent care down the street.

In Africa, less than 50% of the population has access to any medical care.

One doctor dying means 10,000 more people lose medical help.

HOW TO COME UP WITH A BIG IDEA FOR PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING

There's a scene in "In the Heights" (saw last night) where a girl is struggling to come up with an idea for a clothing design

"I've sat and thought and can't find any inspiration"

Here's how to find inspiration
👇
2/
She ended up walking down the street & saw a friend graffiti-ing a wall. But he used different clothes to wipe the paint and such

She was then struck with a new design idea to use a similar pattern on upscale clothes and it was a hit

There's two thoughts here for ideas...
3/
#1. If you sit & think, you'll come up with something

#2. OR --> You expose your brain to different patterns/thoughts and smash them together with baseline idea

As someone who must come up with big ideas regularly for marketing, #2 ALWAYS WINS

#1. ANCHOR

Price anchoring might be one of the most tips skills out there

Every decision you make is on 'present' information.

So if you see a coat is "$100" but normally "$105", you'd think "I dunno, I'll think about buying it"

...

but
3/

What if you knew the coat was normally "$1,000" selling for $100? Suddenly, you're more motivated even if the $1,000 is an arbitrary made up number (Groupon's entire business model)

When I negotiate with a homeowner on their house, I'll use anchoring the entire time

WHAT I'VE LEARNED ABOUT MARRIAGE AFTER 10 YEARS

My wife & I married right after college. That's us running through DT Charlotte

Our wedding and reception were so epic, folks still bring it up to this day

We got a chocolate fountain, I didn't get to even try it...

👇 Image
2/
Every marriage is different, but here are things I've learned (from a guy's point of view)

In 10 years, we've had 3 kids (about to have a 4th), a miscarriage, lived in 3 states, and I quit my stable job to go out on my own.

These things may not apply to everyone fyi
👇

1 - Never make an excuse, just admit you're wrong.

Today, my shower ran 15 min long which left Sam only 30 min to get ready for church. She's ticked

I was up w/ kids at 6:30a, so I could argue I allowed her to sleep in so I deserved it

Prepare for a bad day if you do that
