Biden doesn't set the price of crude, and that's the majority factor, about 70%, of the cost per gallon of gas at the pump. The only part of gas prices controlled by govt is taxes. Biden said he's not in favor of raising the gas tax from the current rate of 18.4 cents.
That's what it's been since 1993. But the GOP & some Dems in Congress are in favor of a hike, not only to raise revenue needed due to the GOP giving the rich a free ride, but also because the tax isn't generating enough revenue to do what it's intended to do.
Of course the GOP wants to force Biden to have to raise the gas tax - it'll make him break his promise to taxpayers, and won't be born solely by the businesses who actually put the excess wear on our interstates and local roads.
Excess wear that has cost taxpayers an additional $141 Billion in highway repairs that the revenue from the gas tax hasn't covered. So we are already paying a higher gas tax, but it's being borne unfairly by the taxpayers, instead of by Corporate America who actually owes it.
If the GOP had their way, the wealthy would pay for nothing. They'd be more than happy to make us buy the food they eat & booze they drink.
